Congress today disapproved of Union Minister Jairam Ramesh's controversial act of wiping his shoe with a garland of spun cotton given by party members while welcoming him at a public function in Rajasthan.
"In the life of a nation there are certain symbols and one should be more careful and sensitive about them," AICC General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said reacting to the development.
The cotton garlands were offered to Ramesh by Congress office-bearers Rameshwar Dudi and Rampyari Vishnoi at a function yesterday.
When the minister was sitting on a chair at the dais, he took off the garlands and put them on a table.
After some time, he took a garland and cleaned his shoe.
Reacting sharply, the state BJP criticised the minister's act and demanded an apology from him saying: "The garland is a symbol of Gandhi's spinning wheel. It (the act) is an insult to Gandhi's khadi."
AICC leaders said that Dwivedi's remark was equally applicable to former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar who had described the Congress as a 'circus'.

CWG SCAM: Chidambaram never acknowledged my CWG letters on graft: Aiyar!

Have you read, “Mayhem of the Miserables!” available @ http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/52075

4 JUL, 2011, 04.32PM IST,IANS / eCONOMIC tIMES.

NEW DELHI: Former sports minister Mani Shankar Aiyar has blamed former finance minister P. Chidambaram for not taking cognizance of his letters that warned about alleged embezzlement of funds earmarked for the Commonwealth Games.

Aiyar said that he wrote several letters to Chidambaram, who is now the home minister , but never got any acknowledgement .

"I don't know that these letters went to the finance minister at all," Aiyar told CNN-IBN. "But after one meeting of the group of ministers, where my insistence on observing the general financial rules (GFR) was overruled by the finance minister himself, I did write to Chidambaram."

Aiyar said that in the letter he also asked the finance minister to directly release the funds instead of the sports ministry doing so.

"In that letter, I did say because I was so upset with the situation that instead of the sports ministry being asked to release these grants in violation of the GFR to Suresh Kalmadi-led Organising Committee , why not the finance ministry itself does it?" he said.

CWG: PM asks sports ministry for 'relevant details' on Aiyar's letters!

Former Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar and PM Manmohan Singh.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked the Sports Ministry for "relevant details" regarding the letters written by former sports minister Mani Shankar Aiyar on last year's Commonwealth Games.
"The letters written by Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar referred to in a news item....are in the public domain....The Prime Minister has asked the Sports Ministry to provide relevant details in this regard," a statement from the PMO said on Saturday.
The statement also made a reference to Singh's remarks on the subject during his interaction with the editors recently.
Does that mean the PM was mislead of the true purport of Mr. Aiyar's letters to him by his own Secretarial Staff, during 2007 when Mr. Aiyar had been repeatedly asking the intervention of the PMO to check the excesses of Suresh Kalmadi?

CWG SCAM: PM ignored Mani Shankar's warning letters of October, 2007!

Former Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar and PM Manmohan Singh.

During his recent interaction with the media, an editor askedPrime Minister Manmohan Singh about the letters written by former sports minister Mani Shankar Aiyar exposing glaring financial irregularities in the run up to the Commonwealth Games (CWG). But the prime minister claimed that the content of Aiyar's letters was "purely ideological".

Two days after the prime minister's statement given at his 7 RCR residence, Headlines Todayaccessed those letters which clearly go beyond ideology. These letters were written by Aiyar over a span of two years starting 2006.

Aiyar's letters quoted specific figures of financial bungling by the sacked chairperson of the CWG organising committee (OC) Suresh Kalmadi and his team during the preparation for the 2010 Games.

In one of these letters, written on March 9, 2006, Aiyar stated: "I write to seek a meeting with you to discuss gargantuan gap between expenditure projections given in 2003 and present projected figures. As against the figure of Rs 150 crore for physical infrastructure, current estimates have been ramped up to over Rs 500 crore. On organisation of games, the figure has been ramped from Rs 250 crore to Rs 900 crore."

In another letter, which directly targets the former OC boss, Aiyar stated on October 25, 2007: "I grow increasingly alarmed at the profligacy of CWG OC chairman. Military Games held with nearly 3 quarters the number of athletes and officials expected for CWG came to under Rs 200 crore. Present projections of CWG expenditure have topped Rs 20,000 crore!"

Dr. Manmohan Singh definitely acted like a Nero in this issue as in others!

'I didn't want to share a cell with Kalmadi in Tihar'......

01) Sure sign that Congress still has some people with integrity!

PM trashed Aiyar's letters as 'purely ideological'...........

02) Yes, Ideological because Mr. Aiyar doesn't want corruption in the name of CWG games!

03) The Prime Minsters' statement to the Sr. Editors during his recent interaction that there was no financial impropriety raised by Mani Shankar Aiyar is not only an 'Untruth'.

04) His absolute inaction till the Courts Intervened on CWG Scam demonstrates that he was in fact allowing that to happen since October, 2007.

05) Was he acting on behalf of someone else much higher to him?

06) Are there many more biggies who got benefited from the ugly earning of Suresh Kalmadi??

07) It is not enough if I alone do not eat grass but I must also ensure that all my colleagues also do not eat it!

I repeat my comments of June 02, 2011:-
http://prmadhura3.blogspot.com/2011/06/upa-liability-pm-was-alerted-about.html

This is height of inaction on the part of Dr. Manmohan Singh!

Sometime back when Mr. L.K. Advani called him a 'name', I felt bad about it and thought why elderly statement should indulge in such verbal duel, though Dr. Singh's response to is was much too delayed!!

I still believe Dr. Singh is not corrupted in financial terms but, Today, I am not sure I would react the same way I did in the past about that 'epithet'  given by Mr. Advani.

CONGRESS POLITICS: Aiyar critical of government’s handling of Hazare, Ramdev!

I would have ignored Baba Ramdev, I would have also ignored Anna Hazare: Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar. File photo
I would have ignored Baba Ramdev, I would have also ignored Anna Hazare: Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar. File photo.

Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar termed Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev’s campaign against corruption as a “circus in Jantar Mantar and Ramlila Ground”, and was critical of the way the UPA government handled the recent events.

“I would have ignored Baba Ramdev, I would have also ignored Anna Hazare. I would have told them you run your show, your circus in Jantar Mantar and Ramlila Ground.

“But if you want to talk to the Parliament of India, please place your applications before the relevant standing committee,” Mr. Aiyar told reporters here on the sidelines of a function.

Mr. Aiyar, out of Parliament and out of Cabinet, definitely has an axe or a few to grind.

When he and his ilk, both from the ruling coalition and opposition, have been insensitive and inert to the gangrene of India called, the al-round corruption, at all levels and planes as well as towards the black money stashed away both abroad and in India, the people have raised their voices.

It was the knee-jerk reaction of the UPA Government to constitute that Joint-Drafting Committee to draft an acceptable draft bill to be introduced in the Parliament.

He needs to understand that like a Gram Panchayat which cannot wish away the Gram Sabha, Union of India too cannot wish away the People of India nor can it dissolve it, as ours is a still  Democratic Republic, though the elected representative may be under dillusions, even if they were denied re-election.

In the name of Coalition Dharma, his Party's Government has lost sense of direction, which we gave them.
