Hina Rabbani Khar is set to become Pakistan’s first woman Foreign Minister, with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani recommending her elevation as a full-fledged Minister, ahead of the India-Pak Foreign
Minister-level talks this month.
Mr. Gilani approved the “summary” or formal proposal for the appointment of Ms. Khar as the new Foreign Minister shortly before he leaves on a five-day private visit to Britain, official sources said.
Mr. Gilani forwarded the formal proposal to President Asif Ali Zardari for his final approval.
Ms. Khar, 34, is expected to take charge as soon as a notification is issued by the presidency, sources said.
The decision to elevate Ms. Khar was made in view of her competency and recent interaction at the
Foreign Office, sources at the Prime Minister’s House told Express 24/7 news channel.
