Two young women stripped down to bikinis in central Moscow on Thursday to express support for Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, in the latest exposure of bare flesh ahead of 2012 polls.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has already inspired an apparently rival group of women to similar acts of naked daring but this was the first time the incumbent Russian president has prompted an erotic frisson.

Surrounded by a gaggle of photographers, activists from a group called Medvedev is Our President said they would take their clothes off to support Medvedev's initiative to cut down on the public drinking of beer.

They invited members of the public strolling on Pushkin Square to pour their cans of beer into buckets. When the beer reached a certain level, they took off their shorts, then their tops.

Anna Sirotkina, a blonde activist who stripped down to a black bikini, told the media the event was aimed at attracting the attention of young male beer drinkers.

"We're taking our clothes off because this event is aimed mainly at young men and our main slogan is 'Choose beer or us'," she said.

It remains unclear which of the two men will stand in next year's presidential elections, and the ‘Medvedev Girls’ unsurprisingly said they wanted the current Kremlin chief to stand for another term

Madras High Court dismisses P Chidambaram's 2009 election petition!

Press Trust of India, Updated: August 04, 2011 15:55 IST.

Chennai:  The Madras High Court has dismissed a petition by Home Minister P Chidambaram against a plea challenging his election in 2009.

In his application, Chidambaram had contended that there were some defects in the petition filed by his immediate AIADMK rival R S Raja Kannappan Kannappan, who lost the election by just 3,354 votes.

Chidambaram had claimed that the high court registry had noted the defects when the petition was filed by Kannappan.

Dismissing Chidambaram's application, Justice K Venkatraman said, "There cannot be any doubt that an Election petition filed with defects which cannot be curable cannot be considered as an election petition at the end. However, in the case on hand, the defects pointed out by the officer concerned are not defects which are not curable warranting dismissal of the election petition."

Kannappan in his petition filed on June 25, 2009 alleged that Chidambaram's election 'deserved' to be declared void due to 'manipulation' of votes and 'corrupt practices' committed by him, his election agents and others, with his consent.

Egypt will go for new general elections in October, the country’s military council has announced, but has barred international monitors to observe the upcoming polls, designed to move the nation back to civilian rule.
The Council said that preparations for the elections to the Lower and Upper Houses would be completed by September and voting will begin “30 days later” in three stages, Al Arabiya news channel reported.
“The exact poll dates for the Parliamentary elections, the first since January 25 uprising, would be announced after September 18,” General Mamdouh Shaheen, a ruling Council member told reporters here.
The General who outlined the new poll laws said barring foreign monitors was necessary step to protect Egypt’s sovereignty, a decision which was swiftly criticised by thousands of activists staging a renewed sit—in at the Tahrir Square, who said it would raise doubts about the transparency of the process.
“We have nothing to hide,” the General claimed, but we reject anything that affects our sovereignty.

Punish those who don't vote: G.V.G Krishnamurthy - via Commons.

Emphasising that voting should be made mandatory, former Election Commissioner G.V.G Krishnamurthy has said that those who do not use this constitutional right should be punished.
"Those who do not use the constitutional right of casting vote in elections should be punished or fined and their civic rights must be withdrawn for a certain period of time," he said.
"The right to vote is a constitutional right but most citizens don't go to polling booths to cast their votes," he said.

Some of us are so disillusioned on the current electoral system where Crores of Rupees are spent by scoundrels to become Legislators, with zero alternative.

Even as the April-May assembly elections in five states saw a record amount of cash seized, the newly elected legislators have declared their expenses as being well below the limits set by the Election Commission, an electoral and political research organisation says.

The new legislators in the Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala assemblies have shown their election expenses as only between Rs 3.12 lakhs and Rs 9.39 lakhs (39 per cent to 59 per cent of the limit) in their declarations to the Election Commission.
According to the information accessed from the Election Commission by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR), a non-profit organisation, only 32 legislators out of 746 analysed have declared that the money spent by them was more than 80 per cent of the limit.
The Election Commission had set an expense limit of Rs.16 lakh for Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal and Kerala and Rs.9 lakh for Puducherry.
"While no MLA (member of legislative assembly) has declared they spent more than the limit, 403 MLAs have in fact declared expenses less than 50 per cent of the limit set by the Election Commission," an ADR analysis said.
On the other hand, the cash seized during these elections was close to Rs.75 crore. Nearly 80 per cent of this, or a whopping Rs.60 crore, was from Tamil Nadu alone.
According to figures provided by the Election Commission, nearly Rs.8.35 crore was seized from West Bengal, Rs.5.20 crore from Assam and Rs.62 lakh from Kerala.
This is the stark reality of the Indian Electioneering!

Tamil Nadu asks mixer makers to state concerns in tender

The Tamil Nadu government has asked manufacturers of grinders, mixers and laptops to state their concerns regarding its tender to source these products for free distribution in the state.
At the pre-bid meeting with the manufacturers held here on Tuesday, the government asked them to send in their views and concerns in writing, industry sources said.
"Going by the product specifications listed in the tender, it is evident that the government is focused on distributing good quality products," Coimbatore Wet Grinder Manufacturers Association (COWMA) secretary D. Krishnamurthi said.
Vijay Srinivasan, marketing director at Maya Appliances manufacturers of Preethi brand of mixers, said: "The government seems to be clear on the quality aspect. It does not want poor quality products even though it is for free distribution."
The state government has floated a tender for sourcing grinders, mixers and fans numbering 25 lakh each, and an international competitive tender for 912,000 laptops.
Freebies work for some and not for others, especially if they are involved in the open loot of National Wealth!

By the CNN Wire Staff / June 16, 2011 -- Updated 1703 GMT (0103 HKT).

NATO keeps up pressure from the air.

Tripoli, Libya (CNN) -- Elections watched by international observers could take place in Libya within three months, one of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's sons says in a published interview.

The European Union, the African Union, the United Nations or NATO could be present to ensure transparency, Saif Gadhafi told the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera.

"The important thing is that the election is clean, there is no suspicion of fraud," he said in the interview published Wednesday and updated online Thursday.

The 38-year-old, who has stood by his father in the regime's violent crackdown on a rebellion that spiraled into a civil war, also said the vote would be carried out "at the most at the end of the year."

Libya's foreign minister, meanwhile, called for a ceasefire and said talks could begin afterward, according to a Russian envoy who arrived in Libya on Thursday.

Gadaffi too isn't in any hurry to leave, he would have to be kicked out of his chair, along with Sons, by the people of Libya!
