Myanmar’s government invited pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi to a meeting on Friday with the new President, an official said, in the clearest step toward a political dialogue since she was released from house arrest in November.
Details of Ms. Suu Kyi’s first meeting with President Thein Sein, including how long they met and what they discussed, were not immediately available, the official said, but added that the meeting was “significant.” He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak with journalists.
The 66-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate has repeatedly called for political dialogue with the government since her release from seven years of house arrest. She made her first trip to the administrative capital Naypyitaw on Friday and later went into the meeting with Mr. Thein Sein, the official said.
Mr. Thein Sein took power in March after an election that critics dismissed as a sham to create a nominally civilian government while entrenching the country’s military rulers. However, the new government has become more open about meeting with dissidents, and has introduced economic reforms.

14(f) goes, Hyderabad a no-free zone for jobs

The President of India, Ms Pratibha Patil, has ordered the deletion of Clause (f) of Para 14 of the AP Public Employment (Organisation of Local Cadres and Regulation of Direct Recruitment) Order, 1975, that will facilitate treating Hyderabad as a “non-free zone” for recruitment to government posts.

The demand for deletion of the clause has been repeatedly made by groups fighting for separate statehood for Telangana. A gazette notification giving effect to the President’s latest order was issued by the ministry of home affairs on Friday.
The Union home minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, stated that the decision to delete the clause was taken on the basis of a resolution passed by the Andhra Pradesh Assembly last year.

Two young women stripped down to bikinis in central Moscow on Thursday to express support for Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, in the latest exposure of bare flesh ahead of 2012 polls.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has already inspired an apparently rival group of women to similar acts of naked daring but this was the first time the incumbent Russian president has prompted an erotic frisson.

Surrounded by a gaggle of photographers, activists from a group called Medvedev is Our President said they would take their clothes off to support Medvedev's initiative to cut down on the public drinking of beer.

They invited members of the public strolling on Pushkin Square to pour their cans of beer into buckets. When the beer reached a certain level, they took off their shorts, then their tops.

Anna Sirotkina, a blonde activist who stripped down to a black bikini, told the media the event was aimed at attracting the attention of young male beer drinkers.

"We're taking our clothes off because this event is aimed mainly at young men and our main slogan is 'Choose beer or us'," she said.

It remains unclear which of the two men will stand in next year's presidential elections, and the ‘Medvedev Girls’ unsurprisingly said they wanted the current Kremlin chief to stand for another term

PTI / The Hindu / UNITED NATIONS, August 2, 2011.

After a gap of 19 years, India on Monday assumed the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council for this month, a period it intends to utilise to establish its credentials for permanent membership by creating a more “enduring” presence for itself.
A temporary member of the Council, India last held the monthly presidency in December 1992.
August, being a vacation period, is expected to be a more relaxed one. But New Delhi's envoy to the U.N. Hardeep Puri said India would handle the responsibility with political maturity.
