Review: ‘Not A Love Story’ is a fictitious story

Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Not A Love Story’ finally releases this Friday and doesn’t fail to impress. The grim story is not your usual crime thrillers where the viewers keeps guessing who the killer is till the last scene neither is it a social drama where the lead protagonist fights for justice. The story is from the killer’s point of view. And it almost makes their crime look believable.
Based on a real life incident that took place in 2008 in Mumbai, the story is of a starlet called Anusha Chawla who lives alone in the big bad city of Mumbai and wants to make it big as an actress. The usual obstacles comes her way in the form of repeated rejection, casting couch etc. When she finally manages to get a role thanks to friendly casting director Ashish (Ajay Gehi) things take a turn of a different kind.

One fine day Anusha’s obsessive lover Robin (Deepak Dobriyal) turns up at her pad only to find Ashish in a compromising position. In a fit rage, Robin stabs Ashish to death. To hide the heinous crime, the couple decide to chop off the dead body, pack it in bags and dispose it off in the jungles.

After several dismissal films, Ram Gopal Varma again comes back with a hard hitting crime of passion. His maverick style of shooting is evident in almost all frames.
Closeups of actors, dark silhouettes are all there. The build up of the murder is very dull with Anusha going from one audition to the other. The film picks up the pace only after the murder takes place.
Fortunately for the viewers, the scenes where the body is chopped off is not shown. It is just merely suggested.

The cine-wings of Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have warned the filmmakers and TV channels against casting Maria Susairaj, a convict in the 2008 Neeraj Grover murder case.
Ram Gopal Varma, who has made a film 'Not A Love Story' on the gruesome incident, had said that he was interested in casting Maria for a role in his next film. Stories of Maria to be a part of the next season of Bigg Boss also made rounds, even though Colors channel, which airs the reality show, dismissed these speculation on Sunday.
On Varma's offer, Shiv Sena-promoted Bharatiya Chitrapat Sena's (BCS) president Abhijit Panse said, "Varma is a big director. But since his films are not doing well at the box-office he is doing such publicity stunts."
Panse also warned of carrying out ‘Shiv Sena style’ protests, if any filmmaker casts Maria in a film.
On the likelihood of Maria's inclusion in Bigg Boss, Panse said, "There is a trend coming up in television reality shows to cast a person with a criminal background, like Bunty Chor, who was cast in season 4 of Bigg Boss."

NEERAJ GROVER MURDER CASE: 'Maria was calm while ordering new mattress' to destroy evidence!

Mid-Day.com, Updated: July 04, 2011 11:51 IST / NDTV.COM.

Mumbai:  Two prime witnesses in the high profile Neeraj Grover murder case have expressed their shock at the court's verdict. MiD DAY spoke to two men, whose services Susairaj availed to destroy evidence related to the killing.

A protester holds up a poster of Neeraj Grover for whose homicide Emile Jerome has been sentenced to 10 years of prison against a hoarding of the sequel to the movie Murder

While Kamlesh Jain cleaned the blood-stained mattresses in which Grover was stabbed, Sanjay Sharan (name changed) lent his car to Susairaj, who used it to dispose of Grover's mutilated body.

Both unsuspecting men were unwittingly responsible for delaying the course of justice. Both were of the opinion that the starlet was let off easily, and deserved harsher punishment.

Ms Susairaj approached Kamlesh Jain, a local mattress maker, when she needed to refurbish the bloodstained mattresses on which Neeraj Grover had been stabbed to death.

His shop is located in the Dheeraj Ganga building, a stone's throw from Dheeraj Solitaire, where Grover was brutally killed.

According to Mr Jain, Ms Susairaj approached him on May 8, 2008, a day after the murder, to order new covers for her mattresses.

Even during the total trail or after it, she hasn't shown any form of regret, guilt or repentance - except giving a hallow show of tear-wiping, at Church, for the benefit of the media!

A true modern-day, Cold-Blooded Lady Macbeth!!

Ram Gopal Varma is known for his penchant for publicity but the director may have gone too far this time as he is being slammed for using the Neeraj Grover case to promote his upcoming film 'Not A Love Story', which he says is inspired by the murder of the TV executive.
Varma, who has been constantly tweeting about the case and his movie, chose the day of verdict to release the first look of the movie and offered a role in his next project to Maria Susairaj, who has been absolved of the murder charges in the Grover death case.
His constant tweets have not gone down too well with Neeraj's family and others.

Even Media resolved to ignore his publicity overtures; but we will have to see how long they would resist the temptation of TRP Wars!

This is a breaking news report
Hours after she walked free from Mumbai's Bycula jail, actress Maria Susairaj visited a church, sought blessings, slammed rumours and interacted with the press in Mumbai.
She was expected to arrive in Bengaluru following her release.
Susairaj was sentenced to three years in jail on Friday by a Mumbai court for destroying evidence in the Grover murder case. Since she had already served more than three years as an undertrial, she was ordered to be released once she had paid the compensation amount of Rs.50,000 to the victim's family.
It has been reported that the actress headed straight for church after her release and 'broke down' as she prayed and 'thanked god' for her freedom. She was accompanied by her brother.
Susairaj then held a press conference which was also attended by her lawyer. The actress maintained that she's innocent and in a twist to the case also added that Neeraj Grover's body was intact - smashing the theory that Grover's body was chopped into 300 pieces before being set alight by co-accused and fiance, Emile Jerome Mathew.

'Maria is a threat'
Neeraj Grover's parents now fear that Maria Susairaj might try and harm them.

Like all celebrity criminals, she too has a host of opportunities to earn a more than decent living from showbiz!

A brush with reality television awaits Kannada starlet, Maria Susairaj, who has just walked free after the court didn’t charge her with murder in Neeraj Grover’s murder case. Sources say that the production house behind reality shows like Bigg Boss and others have already put her on the top priority list as a reality show contestant. Interestingly, Neeraj Grover was also the deputy creative head of a television production company.
“The moment she was free, we knew that she is a potential candidate for reality shows. She just fits the bill for us. Remember, we got Monica Bedi the moment she landed out of jail? We are going to adopt the same tactic for Maria too. In fact, everybody who comes out of jails are in dire need of money, we would give her an option to solve all her financial worries by offering her a chance to take part in our reality show,” says a source, who heads the production unit of a reality show.

1) Ram Gopal Varma also appeared to have released statements, Yesterday, to the effect he would be filiming a movie on Neeraj Grover’s murder case and casting Maria in her own role!

02) I belive there would be no dearth of opportunities for celebrity ex-convicts who also happen to look good!

03) With Dominique Strauss-Kahn being let off of that maid's sexual assault case, he too is expected to become President of France!

Former navy officer Emile Jerome and Kannada actress Maria Susairaj were on Thursday convicted by a local court in the case related to the killing of television executive Neeraj Grover though they were let off on murder charges.

Jerome was found guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder (with intention to cause death) under sections 304 (part I) IPC and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence).
Maria was convicted only on charges of causing disappearance of evidence as the court did not find her and Jerome guilty for the murder of Grover.

While delivering the verdict, the court observed that there was no pre-meditation on Jerome’s part in killing Grover.

According to the prosecution, Jerome had gone to Maria’s residence in suburban Malad on May 7, 2008 where he got into a fight with Grover (26) during which the naval officer stabbed the victim to death. Susairaj and Jerome later cut the body of Grover into pieces and disposed it of in Manor forest in neighbouring Thane.
