More treasures were found on Wednesday as an inventory being made of articles inside the Poornachandra Chamber, one of the personal chambers of the late Sathya Sai Baba in Yajur Mandir, continued for the second day.

During the inventory process on Tuesday, officials found 34.5 kg gold, 430 kg silver besides cash worth `1,90,53,899, media coordinator of the trust A. Anantharaman said.
The inventory was conducted at the second building of Yajur Mandir and four rooms of Poornachandra Chamber in the presence of Anantapur district collector V. Duradas and other revenue officials.

Hyderabad:  Cash, gold and silver continue to tumble out of cupboards in the late Sathya Sai Baba's residential quarters in Puttaparthi town of Andhra Pradesh, with valuables worth nearly Rs. 59 crore being found so far in three rounds of counting.

In the latest round of inventory taken up on Monday at Yajur Mandir in Prashanti Nilayam, Anantpur district officials found ornaments, cash and other valuables.

The inventory, the third in a month, yielded 34.5 kg of gold, 340 kg of silver and Rs.1.90 crore of cash till Monday night. The counting resumed Tuesday morning in the presence of Sathya Sai Central Trust officials.

Anantapur district collector Durgadas told reporters that the counting began at 10.45 am on Monday and lasted nearly 12 hours. The jewellery, cash and other valuables were found in six rooms, which were not opened in the earlier rounds.

The officials found gold bangles, earrings, silver mugs, silver cookware, plates, spoons, puja material, expensive saris, shirts, trousers and other gift items.

The officials believe there might be more rooms and closets which were not searched earlier and might yield more treasure.

The third haul is likely to raise further doubts about the functioning of the trust, which manages the affairs of the vast spiritual empire of Sathya Sai Baba.

Puttaparthi:  Sri Sathya Sai Baba's mahasamadhi was unveiled in Prasanthi Nilayam ashram in Puttaparthi today. The mahasamadhi is located in the Sai Kulwant Hall of the ashram, where Sai Baba used to give darshan to his devotees. It is a rectangular, white marble edifice - 9 ft long, 6 ft wide and 2 ft 2 inches high. It has been constructed just above where Sai Baba was laid to rest after his demise on April 24.

The Satya Sai Central Trust on Monday submitted a voluminous report to the state government n the Trust’s activities, financial transactions, properties and other issues.

The Trust’s financial controller sent the over 500-page report to Dr K.V. Ramanachary, principal secretary to government, revenue (endowments) on Monday afternoon.

“We received the report from the Satya Sai Central Trust. It’s a bulky report pertaining to the queries sought by the state government. The Trust said it submitted available information to government,” Dr Ramanachary told this newspaper.

To his faithful millions, he was God; to his disbelievers he was a fake; to his detractors he was a fraud; to the cynical he was a suspect. Yet, to Karunanidhi, a professed atheist, he was a God-Saint. This sums up the public discourse on Sathya Sai Baba who passed away in April this year. But most, particularly outside his faithful lot, seem to have missed out the dimension of the great soul hidden beyond adulations and abuses — the unparalleled humanist. Here is that Baba not so well known.

Many men and women of high learning, achievements and wealth in India and outside were not just attracted to him. They revered him as the Divine Incarnate. It was his charisma that built a matchless organisation manned by hundreds of thousands of volunteers drawn from the highest echelons to the lowest strata of society. The number of volunteers registered to render from menial to clerical service exceeded six lakh. Baba’s entire work rests on this devoted cadre. A serving IAS officer would give up his job and join him as his clerk; a young IT professional would forgo his fortune, start cleaning the bhajan hall; a businessman heading a billion dollar firm would leave his business and look after one of Baba’s projects. A count of less than 1/6 of the total volunteers (91,753 to be precise) shows this telling break-up — doctors 3,173; engineers 9,760; lawyers/chartered accountants 3,521; professors and teachers 18,226; farmers and workers 41,295; industrialists 11,350; bankers 3,606; judges 71; legislators 167; journalists 261. Any more testimony needed for his charisma, organising skill and leadership?

His trusts have a corpus of several hundreds of crores of rupees. But never did he ask for donations; and he never hesitated to reject the wrong donors. Donors recount how Baba accepted their offerings after making them wait for months to test their sincerity to give. He kept all the money he received in trust for the poor and the needy in his times and in future. Even the undeposited cash and gold in his personal chamber — the Yajur Mandir — made their way to the trusts after him.

On Saturday, when the joint collector inspected Yajurveda Mandir, Rs 76 lakh worth gold and silver articles were found stashed away in a small room attached to Baba's personal room in the Mandir.

Speculations are rife that there could be more treasure, which the Satya Sai Central Trust members have either not disclosed in the inventory or have missed out. Rumours are that large amount of gold and silver has been kept in the guest houses adjacent to Baba's Yajurveda Mandir, meant for the VIPs and VVIPs during their visit and for personal interaction with Baba. They used to be allotted and opened on the directions of Satya Sai and no one else. The keys of those guest houses are reported to be with Baba's personal caretaker Satyajit. It is being said there could more treasure there than what was found in Yajurveda Mandir.

The cock and bull story of the Saibaba Central Trust: J. Ratnakar and Srinivasan that Rs. 35, 50, 000/- cash and the same was being sent to the Shettys the Contractors of the 'Saibaba Samadhi', proving to be a white lie, the Police will prosecute them under criminal laws.

With the large-scale siphoning off of the the funds of Saibaba Central Trust and other entities, finally the Government may take over the affairs of them.

ANANTAPUR: Contrary to the claims of Satya Sai Central Trust members who insisted that there was no more property inside the Yajurveda mandir, government officials on Saturday found huge quantities of gold and silver articles inside the late Baba’s personal chambers.

An inspection carried out by Anantapur district joint collector Anita Ramachandran led to the unearthing of gold, silver and a diamond ring, all worth nearly `80 lakh. According to her, 905 grams of gold ornaments and 116 kgs of silver articles along with a dimond ring were found during the inspection.  The estimated value of the gold is Rs 15.85 lakh while the diamond ring costs `3.9 lakh. The silver articles are worth Rs 54.96 lakh making the total worth of the articles Rs 79.89 lakh.

Express had earlier reported that large quantities of valuables have been concealed in the mandir.  Today’s findings, officials say, is an eye-opener about the goings-on in Prashanti Nilayam.

The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday served a notice on the Sathya Sai Central Trust, seeking a detailed report on its activities, revenues and assets while police in Puttaparthi town grilled another trust member, V. Srinivasan, for six hours over unaccounted cash seized recently.

As per a decision taken by the government on June 22, the endowment department served the notice asking the trust to submit a detailed report within 10 days.

The trust, which manages the vast empire of the late Sathya Sai Baba, has been asked to provide details of its members, their businesses, trust activities, its functioning, assets and revenues, official sources said.

This is the first time in nearly four decades that the state government has intervened in the affairs of the trust, and it comes amid allegations of financial irregularities against some trust members.

The development came two months after the demise of the spiritual guru at the age of 85.

The trust, which was enjoying several exemptions under the Endowment Act since it was formed by Sathya Sai Baba in 1970s, has been facing a series of allegations since his death.

All trust members are now singing a uniformly that the seized cash belongs to the devotees who were funding the construction of the Saibaba Samadhi (Mausoleum) and the same was being sent to the Bangalore based contractor.

The question still remains why a trust run by such eminent personoliteis as former chief vigilance commissioner S. V. Giri, chartered accountant, Indulalh Shah, former bureaucrat K. Chakravarthi, chief justice of India P.N. Bhagwati, etc. has accepted such a heavy amount in cash and also smuggling it, much against the relevant rules of carrying out all cash transactions about Rs. 10,000/- through banks only!

And why such eminent personalities are trying to cover-up the nefarious activities of some unscrupulous trustees?

With its activities increasingly coming under a cloud, Andhra Pradesh government today sought a detailed report from the Sri Satya Sai Central Trust (SSSCT) on a whole range of issues, including its finances.

In a letter addressed to its secretary, the state government gave 10 days time for the Trust to furnish detailed information not only in respect of the Central Trust but also the institutions and the organisations affiliated or associated with it.

The Trust secretary has also been directed to furnish details about the organisational set up of the SSSCT, list of its members, their addresses, background, contact numbers and “other relevant details” of its activities.

The police served notices to the Satya Sai Trust members, Mr R.J. Ratnakar and Mr V. Srinivasan, on Wednesday seeking an explanation regarding the seized Rs 35 lakh which had originated from Satya Sai Baba’s personal chamber, Yajur Mandir, a week back.

They have been given three days to disclose the source of the cash.

Meanwhile, Mr Srinivasan, who left for Bengaluru soon after his driver Shekar’s arrest on June 19, is reportedly trying to get anticipatory bail.

Mr Ratnakar, however, asked for one more day and told district superintendent of police, Mr Shah Nawaz Qasim, that he would furnish the details by Saturday. Sources said that the extra day has been granted to the two trustees.

This is for the first time in the history of the Trust that two of its members have been summoned in connection with a police case. Mr Ratnakar told the media that he would seek legal opinion before respon-ding to the notice adding that the Trust had no connection with the seized cash.

If they have nothing to hide, why would they attempt to get bail or try for getting stay order against investigations?

How can they justify paying Rs. 35, 50, 000/- in cash to anybody, for any service??

Why are they repeating the incoherent lies???

Giving a completely new dimension to the entire controversy that dogged the temple town of Puttaparthi, Ratnakar -- a trustee in the Sri Satya Sai Central Trust and Sai Baba's nephew -- has said that the Rs 35.5 lakh, which was seized in transit by the police, did not belong to the trust.

On being questioned about this money, Ratnakar said the money belonged to the devotees. The money was being legitimately transported to be handed over to a builder who is undertaking the work on Baba's Samadhi. 

The trust has been mired in controversy ever since the death of Satya Sai Baba recently. 

Almost a month after his death, the trustees entered Baba's residence -- the Yajur Mandir -- and opened his locker. 

In the locker, they found Rs 11.5 crore in cash apart from gold and silver articles. All this was deposited and the trust issued a statement in which it was said that all the articles, including the cash, were properly valuated and deposited in the bank in the presence of officials of both the bank and the Income Tax department.

However, a couple of days later the police arrested three persons when they were transporting cash of Rs 35.50 Lakh from the Ashram. 

During the interrogation, one of the persons identified as Shekhar said that he was specifically told to park the car in the Ashram and keep the boot of the vehicle open. The cash was then loaded into the car and was supposed to be handed over to a person who is from Bengaluru. However, the police managed to intercept them and arrest these persons apart from seizing the cash. 

In his media statement, he also claimed that all trust activities are being carried out in strict accordance of statutory requirements!

Then, how come heavy cash of Rs. 35,50,000/- were being smuggled from Andhra-Karnataka border - claimed to be to be handed over to a builder who is undertaking the work on Baba's Samadhi - whereas all legitimate transactions above Rs. 10,000/- to be carried out through Cheque transactions only?

Initially, he even denied that money belonged to him and now when he is corndered by the Police, he makes some specious claims?

There is more than meets the eye in the management of Sai Central Trust and all other entities of Saibaba, hence apart from other ongoing investigations, IT & ED surveys should be conducted on all the members of the Trust!

Puttaparthi:  Several followers of Sathya Sai Baba held protests in Puttaparthi today over reports of alleged mishandling of Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust's money by its members.

"We have lost trust in the trust members and want them to quit. We want the donations to be put to good use," said one of the protesting devotees. They are demanding an inquiry into the functioning of the trust.

Sai Baba's trust feud takes a political turn

Hyderabad: The Rs 35-lakh mysterious cash trail at the Sathya Sai Central Trust in Puttaparthi district of Andhra Pradesh has taken a political turn. After refusing to interfere in the trust affairs, the Kiran Reddy government has now asked the trustees to submit a factual report on the financial matters of the body.

"In the past, the trust was granted several exemptions. We have now asked the trust for a factual report about the finances and their plan, based on which we will take action," said Andhra Pradesh Endowments Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah.

As cracks appear between the trust and Sathya Sai Baba's family members, the Kiran Reddy government was under pressure to look into the matter.
