The ‘Deva Prasnam’(ritual to gauge the will of the deity) at Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple here, being conducted to ascertain the divine will through astrology, has found that the huge riches found in the shrine's vaults should not be moved out or alienated.

Taking the huge treasures out of the temple complex would lead to an ominous fallout and even affect the sanctity of the shrine itself, Madhur Ranga Bhat, who heads the panel of astrologers, told reporters here this evening.

The exercise also cautioned against opening one of the yet to be examined vaults as it is below the sanctum sanctorum, where the idol of Lord Vishnu in reclining posture stands, Bhat said.

The 'deva prasnam' found there had been serious lapses in the conduct of rituals and customs of the temple, which could affect even the nation, the astrologer said.

These aspects would be further examined on the concluding day of the ritual on Wednesday and the panel would summarise the findings and prescribe ‘pariharakriyas’ (resolutions), the rituals to be performed to overcome the shortcomings, he said. The ritual was conducted at the ‘natakasala’ building at the eastern street of the temple.

The underground vaults of Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple here would be inspected to see how suited they are to preserve the vast amounts of gold, precious stones, ornaments and articles of antique value recently found inside them.

The inspection and assessment — by the representative of the Reserve Bank of India in the five-member committee set up by the Supreme Court to decide on the security, inventory and preservation of the articles inside the vaults — is expected to begin in a day or two.

The five-member committee headed by C.V. Ananda Bose, director general of the National Museum, New Delhi, and the three-member committee headed by the former judge of the Kerala High Court, M.N. Krishnan, held detailed meetings here on Monday.

After a meeting in the morning, the teams inspected all the five vaults which have been opened and inventoried. Following this, the committees met on Monday evening for a second, more detailed, meeting.

The meeting reportedly discussed the different core competencies of the committees' members, and distributed work relating to the conservation of the vaults' contents, the documentation, the storage and retrieval of the articles, the possibility of setting up of a museum inside the temple, and the question of whether or not to open vault B.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today reserved its interim orders on the question of permitting inventory, videography and providing fool proof security to the estimated over Rs 1.50 lac crore wealth unearthed from chambers of the famed Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Kerala.

A bench of justices R V Raveendran and A K Patnaik felt that the massive wealth was perhaps at a "risk" in view of the widespread publicity given about it in the media.

The apex court took on record the affidavit filed by the state government and various other parties giving their suggestions for proper maintenance and upkeep of the temple.

The Supreme Court today restrained the seven-member committee from opening vaults of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, which according to various estimates contains wealth worth over Rs one lakh crore.

A bench of justices R.V. Raveendran and A.K. Patnaik asked the petitioner Raja Marthanda Varma, erstwhile Prince of Travancore, and the Kerala government to come out with appropriate suggestions for ensuring sanctity and security of the ancient temple which has come to the limelight following discovery of the huge wealth.

The apex court while restraining the opening of vault (B) and also the vault (A) posted the matter for further hearing on next Thursday. During the arguments, senior counsel K K Venogopal, appearing for the erstwhile prince, clarified that the temple was a public property and no member of the royal family claims any ownership or right over the huge property. "The royal family is not claiming any ownership.

01) There is a heated debate whether the treasures of the Religious Trusts be taken over by the Government and spend on public good!

02) As this is a secular country, I don't think such move would be acceptable in a Multi-Curltural Society as ours, since the 'Right to Worship' is one of the Fundamental Rights, protected by the Constitution!

03) However, the State can play a role of bringing transparency in their Accounting and Spending pattern to ensure that no individual trustee is siphoning of the trust funds or indulging in corrupt practices or nepotism.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed that details of the treasure retrieved from the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple be not disclosed to the public or the media till the inventory by the expert panel was over.

A bench consisting of Justices R.V. Raveendran and A.K. Patnaik also directed that the treasure found from the temple cellars be videographed.

The bench said the option of setting up a museum on the temple premises or outside to display the articles could be explored by all the stakeholders.

The Directive of S.C. is a bit late, as it is already in the public domain that by the Day-before-yesterday it the wealth discovered was valued at over Rs. 100,000/- Crores and counting, which would be over is Week or Two!

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ahead of the apex court hearing a case related to the Sri Padmanabha Swamy temple, a petitioner whose plea to the Supreme Court led to an inventory of the treasure lying in underground vaults below the shrine Tuesday voiced his unhappiness over people linked to the stock-taking speaking to the media.

"I will advise everyone who has been asked to do the job by the supreme Court to follow the directive of the court. I will certainly bring the reaction of the person to the attention of the court," said T.P. Sundararajan to the media here on Tuesday.

He was reacting to an interview given to a TV channel by retired high court judge C.S. Rajan who said that it was an amazing sight to see such a large quantity of jewels which one can never see in a lifetime and it was indeed a rare experience.

"This is not a treasure as you the media has been reporting. In fact, this is the contribution of the royal family of Travancore to the temple over the years. They have given this to the temple over the years, what they received," said Rajan.

"None can say what the value is, it could be more or less than what is being said in the media. We have made a proper inventory of the entire items," said Rajan.

He also said that they have recorded all the contents of the five chambers in five books and hence it is going to be a record.

"We will submit an interim report to the apex court, and this is not the main case because the main case in the apex court is to whom this belongs," said Rajan.

The huge treasure found in the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram was the ‘exclusive property’ of the Travancore royal family, which dedicated its kingdom to the presiding deity of the temple, Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi said on Tuesday.

"For long the erstwhile royal family was the custodian of the temple and they dedicated their kingdom to Lord Sree Padmanabhaswamy. The treasure was the offerings made by the erstwhile rulers to the temple, hence the recovery belongs to the royal family," he told the media here.

"However, the treasure should be kept in the temple cellars itself," he said.

A golden idol of Mahavishnu and a golden ‘anki' weighing close to 30 kilograms were among the articles unearthed from one of the six vaults at the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple here on Saturday.

The inventorying of the vaults is being done by a seven-member panel appointed by the Supreme Court.

The golden idol of Mahavishnu is believed to be a replica of the ‘utsava vigraham' in the Temple and has a height of about one foot (12 angulams). Another idol fashioned out of pure gold was also found.

ANANTAPUR: Contrary to the claims of Satya Sai Central Trust members who insisted that there was no more property inside the Yajurveda mandir, government officials on Saturday found huge quantities of gold and silver articles inside the late Baba’s personal chambers.

An inspection carried out by Anantapur district joint collector Anita Ramachandran led to the unearthing of gold, silver and a diamond ring, all worth nearly `80 lakh. According to her, 905 grams of gold ornaments and 116 kgs of silver articles along with a dimond ring were found during the inspection.  The estimated value of the gold is Rs 15.85 lakh while the diamond ring costs `3.9 lakh. The silver articles are worth Rs 54.96 lakh making the total worth of the articles Rs 79.89 lakh.

Express had earlier reported that large quantities of valuables have been concealed in the mandir.  Today’s findings, officials say, is an eye-opener about the goings-on in Prashanti Nilayam.
