New Delhi:  Postmen had never ventured here but for the past one week they have been taking rounds of Ramlila Maidan with their mailbags delivering letters to fasting Anna Hazare.

And the addresses on these letters read Anna Hazare, Fasting Centre, Ramlila Maidan or just Anna Hazare, Ramlila Ground.

Team Anna members said Hazare has got around 50 letters and packets through courier and speedpost.

Most of the letters were in support of Hazare and his fast while some others were to request him to call off his hunger strike as they were concerned about his health.

Letters were coming from as far as Orissa and Tripura.

Hazare, who began his fast on August 16 in police detention, reached Ramlila Maidan three days later after spending three nights in Tihar Jail.

In what may have never happened before, a woman in Britain received a postcard, which was sent to her by her now dead sister-in-law ‘Dorothy Eastham’ from Egypt in 1954.

Extraordinarily, the card took 57 years to make its way from a postbox in modern-day Yemen, where her ship had made a stop to Preston, Lancashire.

Fortunately, retired florist Margaret Eastham still lives in the same house, and was able to marvel at the relic from a bygone decade.

“I really couldn’t believe my eyes,” the Daily Mail quoted the grandmother-of-seven as saying.

“My first thought was that it was from my neighbours who are in India, but then I recognised the writing as Dorothy’s, only she died four years ago.

“When I saw the date on the postmark, I was really taken back.

“It is amazing really that after all this time it still arrived. And it is in excellent condition.

Post-poll violence in Bengal after Trinamool ousts Left!

KOLKATA: Clashes were reported from different parts of the state ever since assembly poll results were announced on Friday in which the Trinamool Congress defeated the Left, and till Monday there were four deaths,

To take stock of the post poll violence in the state, governor M K Narayanan this afternoon held a meeting with Bengal's chief secretary Samar Ghosh and other top bureaucrats . The governor had earlier expressed his concern over the law and order situation in the state and asked people to maintain peace.

Earlier on Monday, CPM leaders led by Surjya Kanta Mishra met the governor and complained about the violence. 


With Elections Over, it is time to return to normalcy!
