David Cameron is facing fresh questions about his decision to hire Andy Coulson in 2007 after it was reported that his former communications director received several hundred thousand pounds from his former employer News International after he was hired by the Conservative party.

The BBC's Robert Peston said that Coulson received cash payments from the company until the end of 2007 after his resignation as editor of the News of the World in January of that year.

Coulson resigned after Clive Goodman, the former royal editor at the paper, which was closed last month, was jailed for illegally intercepting voicemail messages.

The title's owner News International allegedly agreed to honour the remainder of Coulson's two-year contract, and the money was paid in instalments. Coulson also continued to receive other benefits, including private health insurance and a company car, for several years.

He took up his post as director of communications at the Conservative party in July 2007.

The alleged payments ended before Cameron became prime minister but the fact one of Cameron's closest advisers was receiving money from News International after he started work for the Tories will cast doubt over Coulson's impartiality. The spotlight will again fall on Cameron's close ties with the Murdoch media empire because of the revelations.

Conservative party sources insisted on Monday night they had no knowledge of any News International payments made to Coulson, after checks were made with every senior party official who might have been involved in hiring him in 2007.

CBI has booked former Chief Medical Officer of Lucknow A K Shukla and former Deputy CMO Y S Sachan, who recently died inside Lucknow district prison under mysterious circumstances, in the multi-crore National Rural Health Mission scam.

The agency has filed two cases in the scam as it found leads which indicate that huge financial bungling was allegedly committed by the UP Health Department officials in connivance with the contractors, CBI sources said.

The CBI has alleged in the FIRs that officials in-charge of funds from the Centre under the NRHM allegedly acted hand-in-gloves with the contractors to create fraudulent reimbursement bills in the names of hiring of vehicles and medicine purchases to withdraw funds for personal gains, agency sources said.

The agency has accused the then CMO A K Shukla, Deputy CMO Sachan, District Administrative Office C J Yadav and clerk P C Verma of cheating, criminal conspiracy, forgery among other charges under Prevention of Corruption Act, they said.

The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court had on July 27 directed the CBI to probe the murders of the two CMOs and also irregularities in implementation of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) within three months.

It has previously been alleged that Google’s Street View cars were collecting personal data from unsecured wi-fi networks - AP.

Google collected the unique identifying addresses of computers and mobile phones that used wi—fi networks whose data was logged by the company’s Street View vehicles, technology website CNet.com reported Monday.

The report represents a further privacy problem for the US—based web search giant, after a government audit last year in Germany revealed that Google’s Street View cars were collecting personal data from unsecured wi—fi networks, including email addresses and phone numbers.

Google said that the information had been accidentally collected and claimed to have initiated strict protocols to prevent a recurrence.

CNet said that the new privacy lapse highlighted another loophole in Google’s system.

Street View cars were meant to collect the locations of wi—fi access points, a widely used method to help smartphones figure out their location in the absence of strong cell—phone or GPS signals.
