CBI has booked former Chief Medical Officer of Lucknow A K Shukla and former Deputy CMO Y S Sachan, who recently died inside Lucknow district prison under mysterious circumstances, in the multi-crore National Rural Health Mission scam.

The agency has filed two cases in the scam as it found leads which indicate that huge financial bungling was allegedly committed by the UP Health Department officials in connivance with the contractors, CBI sources said.

The CBI has alleged in the FIRs that officials in-charge of funds from the Centre under the NRHM allegedly acted hand-in-gloves with the contractors to create fraudulent reimbursement bills in the names of hiring of vehicles and medicine purchases to withdraw funds for personal gains, agency sources said.

The agency has accused the then CMO A K Shukla, Deputy CMO Sachan, District Administrative Office C J Yadav and clerk P C Verma of cheating, criminal conspiracy, forgery among other charges under Prevention of Corruption Act, they said.

The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court had on July 27 directed the CBI to probe the murders of the two CMOs and also irregularities in implementation of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) within three months.

Women mourn the death of a rape victim
Women mourn the burning to death of a 35-year-old rape victim in Etah.

Five fresh cases of rape were reported in Uttar Pradesh in the past 48 hours. The sudden spurt in crime against women in the state has shocked the country.
The incidents triggered angry outbursts from the Opposition, with the Samajwadi Party (SP) dubbing the state a "Balatkari (rapist) Pradesh". The attacks come just days after a gruesome incident in Kannauj district where a 13-year-old girl's eyes were gouged out by two men when she resisted their attempt to rape her.
The newest victims included a 35-year-old Etah resident who was burnt alive after her rapists were through with her.
On Sunday, five persons barged into the house of Meena (name changed) in Etah district's Sabhapur village and gang-raped her.
However, Meena recognised three of her rapists.
Yes, Uttar Pradesh should be renamed "Balatkari Pradesh" and Mayawati as "Andhaa Maharani"!

Under pressure over farmers’ agitation, the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday announced a new land acquisition policy under which its role in acquiring land for private developers would only be that of a facilitator.
The chief minister, who held a farmers’ panchayat earlier in the day to discuss their problems, announced that the new policy will be implemented with immediate effect.
Facing flak over acquiring land for private companies, the government has decided that from now on, the developers would be acquiring land directly from the farmers.
After witnessing what has happened in Batta-Parsaul twin Villages, Grater NOIDA, U.P., I am skeptical about the meaning of 'only facilitation', which could well be perpetration of another
Batta-Parsaul like police brutality to scare the people to part with their land at dictated prices.

Come to AP's Srikakulam District, how the state Administration and the Security forces are quelling the agitating farmers and fisher-folk, against the forceful land acquisitions.
