A survey about the behaviors of suburban Chicago teenagers released by the Cook County Department of Public Health Thursday revealed some disturbing information.

The results indicate that nearly one in 10 teens has attempted suicide, 40 percent have tried cigarettes and seven percent claimed they were raped.

The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance Survey evaluated teens’ habits by administering a voluntary, anonymous, 91-item questionnaire to 1718 students in 20 public high schools that covered six categories: behaviors that result in violence, tobacco use, alcohol and other drug use, sexual behaviors, dietary behaviors and physical activity.

It’s part of a nationwide effort led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to evaluate teen behavior, the Daily Herald reports.

The Department of Public Health hopes these findings can be used to help pinpoint problems and address specific areas where more education could diminish these risks, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Woman accuses father-in-law of rape.

A 55-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his daughter-in-law at their house in Chandpole locality here, police said today.

The 22-year-old woman alleged that her father-in-law Babu Lal raped her on last Thursday when he was in an inebriated state and none was present in the house.

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court today said that sex with young girls had become the "luxury" of the rich and rejected the bail pleas of eight accused in a case relating to the rape of a minor girl allegedly by 100-odd men over a period of time.

"Sex with young girls had become the luxury of the rich and the hunt for virgins had gained momentum. This may be because of fear of AIDS," Justice K T Shankaran observed.

He dismissed the bail applications of eight accused, including CPI-M local leader Thomas Varghese, in the case relating to the rape of the 14-year old girl of Paravoor in Ernaulam district.

A 20 year-old aspiring model from Damnagar village near Amreli district was allegedly gang raped here by two persons, police said today.

"An aspiring model from Damnagar village on arriving here had met one Kajal who offered her a rented accommodation. But after a dispute few days later, she was raped by the latter's boy friend Mayur and one of his accomplice," they said.

"The girl in her complaint has alleged that she was beaten by Kajal and her two male friends, before being raped.

Kajal and her two accomplices also had snatched Rs 10,000 from her," they said adding that the accomplices of Kajal were sons of one Jeetubhai.

"After the fight she had gone to have snacks when Mayur alongwith one of his accomplices approached her," police said.

Women mourn the burning to death of a 35-year-old rape victim in Etah.

Five fresh cases of rape were reported in Uttar Pradesh in the past 48 hours. The sudden spurt in crime against women in the state has shocked the country.

The incidents triggered angry outbursts from the Opposition, with the Samajwadi Party (SP) dubbing the state a "Balatkari (rapist) Pradesh". The attacks come just days after a gruesome incident in Kannauj district where a 13-year-old girl's eyes were gouged out by two men when she resisted their attempt to rape her.

The newest victims included a 35-year-old Etah resident who was burnt alive after her rapists were through with her.

On Sunday, five persons barged into the house of Meena (name changed) in Etah district's Sabhapur village and gang-raped her.

However, Meena recognised three of her rapists.

Yes, Uttar Pradesh should be renamed "Balatkari Pradesh" and Mayawati as "Andhaa Maharani"!
