ORLANDO, Fla (Reuters) - Casey Anthony, the young Orlando mother acquitted of killing her toddler daughter, reported for probation on Wednesday in Florida in a check fraud case, the Department of Corrections said.

Anthony, 25, voted the most hated American in a celebrity poll after a jury found her not guilty in July of the 2008 death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee, dropped from public view following her release from jail. Her lawyers confirmed she had moved out of state.

But earlier this month, a judge ordered Anthony to return to Florida to report for a year of probation for a different crime -- check fraud charges she admitted to in 2010.

"Casey Anthony reported to probation in Florida on Wednesday evening," the Florida Department of Corrections said in a statement.

Another statement would be released on Thursday, it said.

New Delhi:  Sources in the Congress party say Sonia Gandhi is expected to return to Delhi on August 30.

The UPA President has been in the US, where her party said she was recovering from surgery.  The Congress said it would not confirm the nature of her medical problem.  Different media reports said Mrs. Gandhi was at the Sloane-Kettering Cancer Centre in New York, though this was not confirmed by Congress spokespersons.

Mrs. Gandhi's return, her party says, has not been hastened by the crisis that has engulfed the government over Anna Hazare's hunger strike. The 74-year-old Gandhian has not eaten for eight days; his sit-in protest at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan has provoked frenetic support all over the country.

French Socialists are paving the way for Dominique Strauss-Kahn to return to politics if – as expected – charges of sexual assault against him in New York are dropped on Tuesday, leaving him free to fly home.

Leading members of the Socialist party said a political comeback could be "envisaged" if the 62-year-old former head of the IMF wished to take part in next year's presidential campaign.

Strauss-Kahn was widely tipped to become the next president of France before he was arrested and charged with attacking a maid in a New York hotel four months ago.

Over the weekend, lawyers for Strauss-Kahn's accuser, Nafissatou Diallo, said she had been summoned to a meeting with prosecutors in New York ahead of a court hearing on Tuesday. Diallo's lawyers said they were expecting prosecutors to tell her they were dropping the case.

Although DSK, as he is known in France, missed the July deadline for taking part in the Socialist party's election to select a candidate, the man who replaced him as favourite – François Hollande – opened the door on Monday for his return to politics. Speaking on French radio, Hollande said Strauss-Kahn's return to politics "could be envisaged".

‘Buried’ man comes alive, surprises family!

HUBLI: It is hard to believe that a dead man could come back to his house and surprise his family members, but it happened in Hubli on Monday morning.

Basavaraj Pampanna Butta, 48, a resident of Nekarnagar in Hubli, had gone to Bangalore a month ago, with Rs 650 in hand, without informing anyone at home and did not contact his family members at all.

On August 5, the police found a dead body floating in Unkal Lake in the city. The body was decomposed and beyond recognition. However, the family members of Basavaraj, who had registered a case, were called to recognized the body.

Much to their agony, the dead person had six toes on his left leg, based on which the family members recognised him.

SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Yemen's president plans to return home within days after treatment in Saudi Arabia for serious injuries in an attack on his palace, officials said, as hundreds of thousands of his opponents rallied in the streets Friday to say he would not be welcome back.

President Ali Abdullah Saleh was badly burned in the June 3 blast at his palace, which wounded other members of his senior leadership and killed at least 11 guards. In his absence, Yemen's opposition parties have sought to persuade the ruling party to join them in a transitional leadership that would effectively shut out Saleh, who has resisted tremendous pressure at home and abroad to step down.

But loyalists have insisted the president will return and resume his duties, and Saleh's powerful son Ahmed, who commands some of the country's best trained military forces, has remained behind in Yemen to help maintain his father's hold.

Ruling party official Yasser al-Yamani said plans to welcome the embattled leader are under way.

"He will return home after medical reports said he is getting better," he told The Associated Press Friday.
