The President of India, Ms Pratibha Patil, has ordered the deletion of Clause (f) of Para 14 of the AP Public Employment (Organisation of Local Cadres and Regulation of Direct Recruitment) Order, 1975, that will facilitate treating Hyderabad as a “non-free zone” for recruitment to government posts.
The demand for deletion of the clause has been repeatedly made by groups fighting for separate statehood for Telangana. A gazette notification giving effect to the President’s latest order was issued by the ministry of home affairs on Friday.
The Union home minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, stated that the decision to delete the clause was taken on the basis of a resolution passed by the Andhra Pradesh Assembly last year.
