Young women are increasingly seeking cosmetic genital surgery to make their vaginas match pornographic images, a new study has found.

Researchers at the Elizabeth Garret Anderson Hospital, London, found that the number of labial reduction procedures in the National Health Service has increased five fold in the past 10 years.

This is the first study looking specifically at the labial dimensions of women seeking cosmetic surgery.

The researchers looked at 33 women seeking the operation, whose average age was 23, and found that they all had normal-sized labia minora, with an average width of 26.9 mm (right), and 24.8 mm (left).

Only three had a significant assymetry for which surgery would be appropriate. But 40 per cent of them still keen to pursue the operation, mostly because they wanted to make their labia smaller ‘to improve appearance’.

Other reasons included reducing discomfort, improving confidence and wanting to improve sexual intercourse.

According to the Independent, women are “bombarded with images suggesting they were not normal”, including websites advertising female genital cosmetic surgery which presented idealised images of the perfect vagina.

Former friends and neighbours in Oslo talk about growing up with the boy who became a mass murderer.

Even as he languishes in solitary confinement in a prison that fittingly was once a Nazi concentration camp, Anders Behring Breivik continues to wage his demented war against Islam.

Having murdered 77 innocent victims, he is now entering the propaganda phase of his 21st-century crusade. Confined to his cell, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt that he spends his waking hours writing speeches or making bizarre requests to the authorities.

A narcissist and a fantasist, Breivik, 32, refuses to have his prison “mugshot” taken to ensure that the carefully stage-managed photographs he took of himself – in full Masonic regalia or clutching his rifle – are not replaced by more humbling images.

Having been refused permission to wear a combat uniform, he has demanded to wear a red Lacoste sweater for his public outings to court or to the police station. He will not wear anything else.

HYDERABAD BUZZ: GHMC plastic ban all set to roll from today!

The ban on plastic carry bags below 40-micron thickness comes into effect in the city from Friday.

Sources said that enforcement teams of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will raid plastic manufacturing units, dealers, distributors and whole-sellers, besides major malls and markets, in the first few days after the ban coming into effect.

The civic body is likely to go slow against retail commercial establishments, particularly tiffin centres, eateries and restaurants in the first week as the managements of a majority of retail shops, showrooms and kirana stores in the city had complained that their shops had not been supplied with above-40 micron plastic carry bags by their distributors despite repeated requests.
