THE SECRET LIFE OF MUAMMAR GADDAFI: Inside the Gaddafis' Bungalow!

Gaddafi's Compound

Babak Dehghanpisheh visited a Gaddafi family home this morning and discovered a secret palace hidden behind an ordinary façade. Read about the garden labyrinth, 40-foot deep bunker, hot tub, waterfall, Playboy magazine collection, yachting brochures and an empty box of Coronas.

The neighbors always knew they would be surprised by what’s inside the house on Dhel, or shadow, street. But when they got the first glimpse of Muammar Gaddafi’s house in southeast Tripoli last Sunday, they were in complete shock. “It’s amazing. We didn’t believe [it],” says Hassan Salem, a 46-year-old engineer who lives in the neighborhood. “We thought we are in a dream.”

There have been many rumors about the Saharan madman’s palaces and underground bunkers over the years, testaments to a dictator’s ego and paranoia that in some cases seemed to outdo his peers, like Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Well, as it turns, the rumors are true. “There are a lot of hidden things inside,” says Bahauldin Babai, 28, a doctor who also lives in the neighborhood and now helps guard the house from looters. In order to prevent further damage and looting to the compound, rebel military leaders have sealed the doors. The only way in or out is with a ladder, which some neighbors are happy to supply.

The house was built by Gaddafi in the 80s and later given to his son Mutassim. It looks inconspicuous enough on the outside with an ordinary gate and dun-colored walls, which blend with the surrounding houses. On the other side of the gate, it’s a step through the looking glass: an inner ring of 30-foot high walls surround a huge, beautifully manicured garden with trimmed hedges, small ponds, and pink bougainvilleas. The earthy smell of fresh grass fills the air in late afternoon.

HEALTH & LONGEVITY: Living to see 100 is just luck, not lifestyle!

For LEED / IGBC Certifications, Consultancy, Green Building Design, Green Homes, Green Factory Buildings, Green SEZs, Green Townships & Energy Audits - www.greentekindika.com

By Stephen Adams, Medical Correspondent, telegraph.co.uk / 6:30AM BST 03 Aug 2011.

Those who are lucky enough to qualify for a telegram from the Queen have simply been dealt a good genetic hand at birth, the study indicates.

Academics studied almost 500 people between 95 and 109 and compared them with over 3,000 others born during the same period.

They found those who lived extremely long lives ate just as badly, drank and smoked just as much, took just as little exercise and were just as likely to be overweight as their long-gone friends.

The study was carried out by researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, who interviewed 477 very long lived Ashkenazi Jews.

Prof. Nir Barzilai, director of the college's Institute of Ageing Research, said previous studies of this group had identified certain genes which protected them from the effects of a normal Western lifestyle.

The Mediterranean diet is high in vegetables, olive oil, fruit, nuts, fish and whole grains, and low in meat and alcohol. Seen here is a Mediterranean salad - The Hindu.

A study has found that the Mediterranean diet, alongside other factors, could have the capability of extending life expectancy in women by up to 15 years, and for men by eight years.
The Mediterranean diet is high in vegetables, olive oil, fruit, nuts, fish and whole grains, and low in meat and alcohol.
The ten—year study by the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands followed 120,000 men and women who were aged 55 to 69 in 1986 until 1996.
Researchers said that those who follow the diet combined with exercise, not smoking and keeping to a healthy weight could live up to 15 years longer.
They also said that keeping to the four healthy lifestyle factors can “substantially reduce” the risk of an early death.
“Very few research studies worldwide have analysed the relationship between a combination of lifestyle factors and mortality in this way,” the Daily Mail quoted Piet van den Brandt, professor of epidemiology at Maastricht University, who worked on the study, as saying.
“This study shows that a healthy lifestyle can lead to significant health benefits.

KASHMIR: Govt fears threat to life of ex-militants!

August 1, 2011 / By Namrata Biji Ahuja, Correspondent, New Delhi / DC.

India is concerned about the security of former militants and their families who are living in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and are seeking its help to return to the Valley. The ambitious rehabilitation policy of the government has drawn 700 applications from militants who hail from J&K but have been living in PoK for past many years. While the response is encouraging, the Indian security establishment is concerned that such militants whose names have been cleared may already be under surveillance by elements in Pakistan which do not want their smooth return to the Valley. Besides giving them a “safe’’ passage, proper identification and background checks of all such militants who claim to have given up militancy and are promising to lead a peaceful life is proving to be a tedious task for Indian agencies who are treading cautiously on allowing their return to the Valley.
Government sources said that the activities of the Indian high commission in Islamabad could also possibly be under the scanner for its role in facilitating the process. The home ministry is expected to convene a meeting with representatives of the ministry of external affairs and J&K government shortly to chalk out a way forward.
A government official said efforts are on to muster support from the Pakistani government but conceded that the “diplomatic’’ process may take time. “If any of these militants are killed, their families would immediately blame the government. We need to proceed cautiously and ensure their safe return,” an official said. Sources in the security agencies are also not ruling out efforts by the ISI-backed terror outfits like the LeT to try to create trouble along the way.

DASTARDLY WIFE KILLER: Youth to remain in jail till death for brutal murder of teen wife!

A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to imprisonment till death for killing his teenaged wife, in a rare verdict by a Delhi court which denied the youth any remission citing his ‘insensitivity’.
"The insensitivity of the convict (husband) is writ large from the fact that he did not even consider the future of one-and-a-half-year-old daughter apart from the fact that wife was hardly aged 18 years when she lost her life at the hands of convict in a cowardly act," Additional Sessions Judge S. S. Rathi said while sentencing Shashi for killing his wife Kavita in the presence of her mother in November, 2008.
Usually, the courts do not spell out the period to be served in prison while awarding life imprisonment to convicts who are entitled for various kinds of remissions in sentence as per the provisions of the jail manual or rules.

As the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) releases the new dietary guidelines for Indians, a group of budding nutritionists talk about spreading the good word on nutrition
So, what is the diet secret? The nutritionists, of course. The in-demand food experts who give you gyan about the amount of calories you load in your body by indulging in deep-fried gulab jamun or how your food and an unhealthy lifestyle has resulted in your burgeoning waistline. With more and more people saying hello to a sense of eating that sits lightly on the stomach, nutritionists have become the most-sought after experts.
At the National Institute of Nutrition in Tarnaka, the mood is upbeat. New dietary guidelines for Indians have been released and a group of budding nutritionists talk about spreading the good word on nutrition. “It's exciting to be part of a profession where you can make a healthy choice,” say Swetha, Anusha, Pallavi Sharma and Karishma Shah — M.Sc students of the Institute.
A few kilometres away at Kamma Sangham in Ameerpet, a big group of students studying Nutrition at St. Ann's College sit attentively as a group of women in their gym gear showsimple exercises with dumb bells. The event was ‘Just Lose Fat', a three-day exhibition focusing on eating right and losing weight.
Nutrition experts who talk about dietary supplements and slimming centres that promise Deepika Padukone's slim figure have all become the order of the day. People are falling for the bait, but what about the side-effects? Swetha recalls the experience of going to a yoga centre where her brother was offered a 15-day package with a promise that he would lose 3 kgs in one week! “I was shocked when I heard it. I asked him ‘Is it not unhealthy? How can one lose so much weight in such a short time?' But there are people who fall for these packages,” she says. The youngsters say the concept of health as an investment is still a long way to go in India. “Obesity, especially in children, is alarming and parents don't realise it is the result of compromises in lifestyle. Why aren't public health messages aired on cartoon channels?” asks Pallavi.

ECOLOGY & BIODIVERSITY: A fifth of world's life at extinction risk!

A trio of humpback whales break the surface of the water as they work together in a group behavior known as "bubble feeding" off the coast of Cape Cod near Provincetown, United States. Efforts to save endangered animals are making a measureable difference, even as a fifth of the world's backboned species -- mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fishes -- are threatened with extinction, a huge new analysis says. File photo - AP.

A fifth of the world’s mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fishes are in imminent danger of going extinct, says this year’s edition of the benchmark IUCN Red List. The percentages of threatened invertebrates and plants are similar.
Releasing the findings at the Oct. 18-29 UN biodiversity summit, being attended by 192 countries, here Wednesday, Simon Stuart, chair of the Species Survival Commission of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), said their findings on vertebrates showed that “nature’s backbone is at risk”.
Around 3,000 scientists from around the world have worked to put this Red List together. They have found that 25 percent of all mammals, 13 percent birds, 41 percent amphibians, 22 percent reptiles and 15 percent fishes risk extinction, mostly due to loss of their habitats and some due to overhunting.
A recent study by the Kew Botanical Gardens had found that around six million species — 20 percent of all plants and invertebrates — face the extinction threat too.
But it’s not all bad news. IUCN has found 64 species that have improved their status in the Red List, moving from the critically endangered to the endangered category, for example. Stuart said all these were in areas that had been protected, “proving the importance of conservation”. Results show that the status of biodiversity would have declined by at least an additional 20 percent if conservation action had not been taken.

2G Spectrum Scam: Night in 10x15 ft cell, simple breakfast for Kanimozhi in Tihar!

Please Join us in India’s Anti-corruption Movement; Kindly sign “Save Lokpal Bill” @

Night in a 10 ft by 15 ft cell with a rolled up blanket as a pillow, a spartan breakfast of bread and tea and some Tamil newspapers - DMK MP Kanimozhi's first day behind bars at the Tihar jail here was a far cry from the luxuries she is accustomed to.

The Rajya Sabha member and DMK chief M. Karunanidhi's daughter spent her night in Ward 8, the women's ward of jail number six at Tihar, officials said on Saturday.
Arrested after being denied bail by the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in the 2G spectrum scam, Kanimozhi, 43, was brought to Tihar around 4.30 p.m. on Friday.
An old adage: 'As you sow so shall you reap'.
Today her plea for bail is to exempt her from being jailed so that she could look after her 9 year old Son.  But, very unfortunately our laws do not give any special privileges to Mothers.
It is the Mothers who have to be careful in their conduct so that they would not be kept away from their Children, whereby giving them a life-time trauma.

Ramdev's Fast: Fast hasn't ended, they wanted to kill me: Ramdev!

Please Join India’s Anti-corruption Movement; Kindly sign “Save Lokpal Bill” @

Cops evict supporters of yoga guru Baba Ramdev from the 'fast-unto-death' at Ramlila Maidan grounds, in New Delhi - AFP.

A visibly emotional Baba Ramdev on Sunday accused the central government of betraying him and trying to kill him.
Upon reaching his ashram in this pilgrim city Sunday after being evicted from Delhi, he also insisted that his fast against corruption had not ended. "They wanted to kidnap me and kill me or send me somewhere," a sore throated and at times teary eyed Baba Ramdev said at a press conference in Hardwar.
"My fast has not ended," he said about the hunger strike against corruption which he had launched at the Delhi Ramlila ground Saturday but which was halted by police action on him and his supporters.
As I watched on the telly, I found him visibly shaken and as for his allegation that his life was under threat from this government, his repeated lies aren't make them truth.
Indian Governments can be accused of many ills but do not bump off its opponents, the way it is done elsewhere.  Besides his life is not worth snuffing by anybody.
He still needs to explain, why he has gone ahead with his fast-drama, while he had already received assurance from the Government of acceptance of 99% of all his demands, to which effect he has also given them a written undertaking and why he has suppressed all these fact from his supporters and public?

With the Government refusing to talk with him and his rants & chants being ignored by the media, he would soon fade away into oblivion.
