Baghdad: An Al Qaeda-linked group has vowed to launch 100 attacks in Iraq to avenge the death of terror mastermind Osama bin Laden, a media report said.
The Islamic State of Iraq (ISI) - the terror outfit's front in the country - said Saturday the attacks would begin from the middle of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, Xinhua reported.
Bin Laden was killed in May in a US special forces operation in Pakistan's Abbottabad city.
The Islamic State of Iraq said in a statement posted on an Islamic website that its attacks would vary from suicide bombings, roadside bombs, sniper shots and silenced weapons attacks in all cities, rural areas and provinces.
"We have started this stage with an invasion called Revenge for Sheikh Osama Bin Laden and senior leaders," the statement said.

IRAQ HEADACHE: 60 killed as wave of violence rolls across Iraq!

KUT, Iraq (AP) -- Bomb blasts ripped through more than a dozen Iraqi cities Monday, killing 60 security forces and civilians in the worst attack this year, one that highlighted al-Qaida's resolve and ability to wreak havoc.

The bloodbath comes less than two weeks after Iraqi officials said they would be open to a small number of U.S. forces staying in the country past a Dec. 31 withdrawal deadline.

The blasts were coordinated to go off Monday morning and included parked car bombs, roadside bombs, a suicide bomber driving a vehicle that rammed into a police station and even bombs attached to lightpoles.

The scope of the violence - seven explosions went off in different towns in Diyala province alone - emphasized that insurgents are still able to carry out attacks despite repeated crackdowns by Iraqi and U.S. forces.

Iraqis were furious at security officials and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

"Where is the government with all these explosions across the country? Where is al-Maliki? Why doesn't he come to see?" said Ali Jumaa Ziad, a shopowner in Kut, where the worst of the violence occurred. Ziad was brushing pieces of human flesh from the floor and off equipment in his shop.

Al-Maliki's spokesman and the military spokesman did not answer telephone calls.

Twin explosions rocked the market in Kut, 100 miles (160 kilometers) southeast of Baghdad, where Ziad works.

Police spokesman Lt. Col. Dhurgam Mohammed Hassan said the first bomb went off in a freezer used to keep drinks cold. As rescuers and onlookers gathered, a parked car bomb exploded; 35 people were killed and 64 injured.

Police sealed off the area where human flesh was scattered on the ground and bloodstained walls were punctured by shrapnel.

Earlier this month, Iraqi political leaders announced they would begin negotiations with the U.S. to determine whether to keep a small number of American forces in the country past Dec. 31.

All U.S. troops must leave by the end of this year, but both Iraqi and U.S. officials have expressed concern about the ability of Iraqi forces to protect the country.

Theodore Karasik, a Middle East security expert at the Dubai-based Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analyst, said al-Qaida in Iraq is trying to disrupt the internal Iraqi political process and send a message to the Americans.

"It seems that al-Qaida in Iraq is playing a propaganda game at the same time it's trying to show that it can still carry out deadly violence," Karasik said. "If the U.S. extends its military presence, al-Qaida in Iraq can use it as a tool by saying, `Look, the Americans have reversed their decision to leave and are staying on as occupiers.' They could use this as a justification for more attacks."

In Diyala province, seven bombs went off in the capital of Baquba and towns nearby, said Faris al-Azawi, the province's health spokesman. Five soldiers were killed in Baquba while five people were killed in other attacks around the province.

Iraqi Civilians Die in Raid, Complicating Pullout Talks!

By MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT, nytimes.com / Published: August 6, 2011.

BAGHDAD — For the second time in a week, a joint Iraqi-American raid aiming at insurgents resulted in the killing of civilians.

Witnesses in the village of Ishaqi, just south of Tikrit, said Iraqi and American forces opened fire on civilians and threw grenades early Friday as they conducted the raid. The villagers said the forces were responding to gunfire from people in the village and then fired back, killing a 13-year-old boy and an off-duty police officer.

American military officials acknowledged that there was an operation but offered few details.

“This was an Iraqi-planned and -led counterterrorism operation,” Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan, an American military spokesman, said in a statement. “The operation was enabled by U.S. support that included helicopters. Also, there was a small number of U.S. advisers taking part in the operation, although it was predominantly Iraqi forces, and they were in charge of all activities on the ground.”

General Buchanan said that “because of the fighting that ensued” additional American forces responded. “They secured the area but were not engaged in the operation,” he said. The statement did not say if the original American forces on the ground fired their weapons.

A spokesman for the Iraqi special forces declined to comment.

The operation, coming so soon after a botched raid on July 30, is sure to complicate politically fraught talks over whether American troops should remain in Iraq after the end of the year.

Amid pressure from American officials, who privately say some troops should remain, the Iraqi government announced on Wednesday that it would begin negotiations about a continued American troop presence.

Some politicians were already railing against the Americans for Friday’s raid, criticizing troops in the local press for once again violating Iraq’s sovereignty.

U.S.-IRAQ EXCESSES: Judge allows American to sue Rumsfeld over torture!

The Army veteran alleges that the former American Defence Secretary personally approved torturous interrogation.
A judge is allowing an Army veteran who says he was imprisoned unjustly and tortured by the U.S. military in Iraq to sue former Defence Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld personally for damages.
The veteran’s identity is withheld in court filings, but he worked for an American contracting company as a translator for the Marines in the volatile Anbar province before being detained for nine months at Camp Cropper, a U.S. military facility near the Baghdad airport dedicated to holding “high-value” detainees.
The government says he was suspected of helping get classified information to the enemy and helping anti-coalition forces enter Iraq. But he was never charged with a crime and says he never broke the law.
Lawyers for the man, who is in his 50s, say he was preparing to come home to the United States on annual leave when he was abducted by the U.S. military and held without justification while his family knew nothing about his whereabouts or even whether he was still alive.
Court papers filed on his behalf say he was repeatedly abused, then suddenly released without explanation in August 2006. Two years later, he filed suit in U.S. District Court in Washington arguing that Mr. Rumsfeld personally approved torturous interrogation techniques on a case-by-case basis and controlled his detention without access to courts in violation of his constitutional rights.

Some of the 222 human remains, believed to be those of Kurds found in a mass grave, are marked with red flags, some 70km from Diwaniyah, south of Baghdad - AFP.

The remains of 222 people, probably Kurds killed under Iraq's former regime in 1987, were extracted from a mass grave south of Baghdad, the authorities said on Sunday.
"We have found 222 bodies and we have transferred them to the morgue in the province of Najaf," said Karim Ziad, the official in charge of mass graves at the Department of Human Rights.
Iraqi authorities announced on Wednesday they had discovered another mass grave with 900 corpses in the Shanafiyah region near the city of Diwaniyah.
Ziad said several factors suggested that the victims, most with bullet wounds, were Kurds killed during the regime of ousted dictator Saddam Hussein.
"The mass graves are made up of six trenches, and we have done (work) on only three of them," he said, suggesting the number of victims could be much higher.
Dakhil Saihoud, provincial head of the Justice and Accountability Commission which investigates issues relating to the former regime, said he was informed there were 17 trenches at the site.
"It is possible there are hundreds of bodies in there," he said.

Blasts in N. Iraqi oil city kill up to 25 - sources!

By Mustafa Mahmoud | Reuters – 1 hour 1 minute ago

KIRKUK, Iraq (Reuters) - Three bombs targeting Iraqi security forces exploded near government buildings in the centre of Iraq's disputed northern oil city of Kirkuk on Thursday, killing up to 25 people and injuring scores, sources said.
Kirkuk, whose population is a volatile mix of Arabs, Kurds, Turkmen and others, lies amid some of the world's richest oil reserves and is a potential flashpoint as U.S. troops prepare to withdraw from Iraq by the end of the year, more than eight years after the invasion that removed Saddam Hussein.
A small bomb stuck to a police officer's car exploded near police headquarters, followed by two big car bomb blasts as security forces and rescuers rushed to the scene during the attack officials blamed on al Qaeda affiliates.
"I was on my way into police headquarters and suddenly I fell to the ground, but did not feel anything because I lost consciousness," said Talib Jabar, a policeman whose hands and feet were injured. "When I woke up I found myself in the hospital with doctors around me and I was bleeding everywhere."
Television footage showed the twisted and burnt wreckage of cars in the street as police officers picked through the debris. A local hospital was filled with the injured.
"There were three explosions that targeted the security forces near the local government buildings," Hassan Turan, the head of the Kirkuk provincial council, told Reuters.
"The first was a sticky bomb on a car of a police officer, followed by a car bomb targeting the police who gathered near the car," Turan said. "Afterwards there was a second car bomb that exploded in the same place."
Turan put the death toll at 17 with dozens injured but an Interior Ministry source and a hospital source said there were 25 dead and 68 wounded.
"We expect the death toll to rise because most of the wounded are serious cases," the hospital source said.

EXCLUSIVE - Shi'ite groups behind Iraq killings, officials say!

Brickbats, Bouquets & Backfeeds are welcome on prmadhura@yahoo.com

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Shi'ite militias rather than Sunni Islamist al Qaeda are behind a recent wave of assassinations of Iraqi government, police and military officials in Baghdad, security officials said.
Militants have used silenced guns and bombs stuck to their targets to kill more than 38 officials in the last five months, according to Baghdad security operations. Interior Ministry sources have reported at least 51 such killings to Reuters in the same period.
"This issue is the biggest concern for the security apparatus currently," said Major-General Hassan al-Baidhani, chief of staff for Baghdad's security operations command.
"The graph line of (other) terrorist operations has decreased a lot ... but assassinations using sticky bombs and silenced weapons have started to rise," he said.
Among those killed last week were the director general of the Iraqi State Cement Co. Four assassinations were carried out in Baghdad on Sunday and Monday in which three officers at the Interior and Defence Ministries were killed, an Interior Ministry source said.
Terrorists do not have faith in any religion, they simply belong to the cult of devil!
