Ex-porn actress alleges Anthony Weiner told her to cover up online activities

An adult film performer has tested HIV-positive, prompting a temporary shutdown of productions across the Los Angeles area until further testing is completed.

"Until we know for sure, we've asked the industry to have a moratorium on production," said Diane Duke, executive director of the Free Speech Coalition, a Canoga Park-based porn industry trade group.

Duke's group became aware of the possible HIV case Saturday. Duke would not say how her group learned about the case and did not release the name, age or gender of the performer, citing medical privacy laws.

She said she notified adult film production companies Monday morning that a performer had tested positive and urged them to temporarily halt productions until further tests were completed.

All the company officials she spoke with, including those at well-known studios such as Hustler Video and Evil Angel, agreed to the temporary shutdown, she said.

Production companies referred questions about the moratorium to Duke.

Duke's group was notifying actors known to have performed with the potentially infected person so they could get tested, she said.

DISEASES & RESEARCH: Virus that kills HIV-infected cells created!

August 9, 2011 / ANI, Washington / DC.

A USC scientist has created a virus that hunts down HIV-infected cells, which could herald a breakthrough toward curing the disease.
Dr. Pin Wang’s lentiviral vector latches onto HIV-infected cells, flagging them with what is called “suicide gene therapy” — allowing drugs to later target and destroy them.
“If you deplete all of the HIV-infected cells, you can at least partially solve the problem,” said Wang, chemical engineering professor with the USC Viterbi School of Engineering.

HIV has come knocking on the front doors of homes in Tamil Nadu.
The virus disease is now spreading to housewives and professional women more than ever before.
Research by National AIDS Control Organisation shows that intervention has succeeded in lowering the incidence of HIV infection among commercial sex workers from 10.3 per cent to 4.9 per cent from 2003 to 2008, but the ratio of all men and women infected with the virus has remained almost constant at 60:40.
Doctors have concluded that the new wave of infections has afflicted mostly women who are not commercial sex workers.
Another study by YRG CARE involving subjects from Chennai shows that over 22 per cent of the identified HIV+ cases in the city are housewives. Even though the YRG study did not include commercial sex workers, doctors say the statistics are a cause for concern.

Scientists at the Tuberculosis Research Centre (TRC) here have hit upon a new molecule with anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties that could potentially lead to a better drug for the treatment of TB and common HIV sub-types.
The team at TRC extracted the molecule “Transitmycin” from the marine microorganism “Streptomyces sp. isolated from a soil sample off the Rameswaram coral reef.
The brominated and pigmented (yellow) anti-biotic was found effective during in vitro tests against dormant and active forms of Mycobacterium tuberculosis -- the pathogen that triggers one of the leading infectious diseases world-wide.
“The significance of the discovery of this molecule is that it comes at a time when there is virtually nothing to offer to patients developing multi-drug resistance to an otherwise effective second-generation drug like Rifampicin,” said Vanaja Kumar, Head of Bacteriology at TRC, Chennai.
In its latest report, ‘Global Tuberculosis Control 2010’, the World Health Organisation (WHO) notes that although there were significant improvements in tackling the disease, new forms of multi-drug-resistant TB were causing havoc in countries like Russia, China and India.

Good Development!
