Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary C.K. Chandrappan - PTI.

Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary C.K. Chandrappan has termed the preventive arrest of civil society leaders, including Anna Hazare, denial of the Constitutional right to dissent.

Denouncing the detention of Mr. Hazare and his team ahead of their scheduled indefinite fast against corruption, Mr. Chandrappan told presspersons here on Tuesday that it amounted to denial of the Constitutionally guaranteed democratic rights to dissent and protest.

He said mass protests against the ‘denial of fundamental rights' would sweep the country in the wake of the detention of Mr. Hazare. He said Mr. Hazare had the right to say what he wanted to say. Whether one agreed with some of Mr. Hazare's views and his ‘apolitical politics' could be debated separately, Mr. Chandrappan said, adding that the CPI was of the view that Mr. Hazare should be given the freedom to dissent and protest.

Mr. Chandrappan said hunger strike was a mode of protest practised by Gandhiji and others. Dubbing hunger strike as blackmail was not correct.

The Congress' stand that the Lokpal Bill was under the consideration of Parliament was an excuse. There was a widespread demand for an effective Lokpal, he said.

'Chandy should resign'

Mr. Chandrappan said the Left parties would intensify their agitation seeking the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the wake of the Vigilance court's order for continued probe against him in the palmolein import case.

PTI / The Hindu / NEW DELHI, August 16, 2011.

Netizens including Bollywood stars, poets and writers flooded the social networking sites with messages extending support to Anna Hazare following his arrest for vowing to go ahead with his fast for a strong Lokpal in defiance of prohibitory orders.
Criticising the arrest of Mr. Hazare and his associates, the ‘twitterati’, facebook followers and bloggers broadly felt that government will have to pay a “heavy price” for not allowing citizens to protest which is a “democratic right”.
“Arresting Anna n team is deplorable. The govt has pushed itself into a sorry situation from which it will find difficult to extricate itself,” Bollywood actor and activist Shabana Azmi tweeted.
“We condemn the arrest of Anna Hazare and his team and the ban on the proposed fast. Right to protest peacefully is a democratic right,” she wrote.
Film producer Shekhar Kapoor said, “Arresting Anna Hazare will provoke sporadic violence bec (because) he will not b able 2 control it from prison.”

SYRIAN RESISTANCE: Saudi King Condemns Syrian Regime!

Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah has spoken out against the Syrian regime. But as Babak Dehghanpisheh reports, the move was also a shot at Syria’s ally: Iran.

The message was about as blunt as it gets. Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah issued a statement on Sunday calling for the Syrian regime to “stop the killing machine.”

“Large numbers of martyrs have fallen, their blood has been shed, and many others have been wounded,” he said. “This is not in accord with religion, values, and morals.” To drive the point home, King Abdullah recalled the Saudi ambassador in Damascus on Monday; Kuwait and Bahrain quickly followed suit.
On the surface, this seems like a strong position taken by one of the region’s most influential Arab governments. After all, at least 2,000 Syrians have been killed since the violent crackdown began in March.
But why did it take five months for the Saudis to speak up? “The Saudis have been leading the antidemocratic transformation in the Arab world, trying to push back the Arab Awakening,” says Rami Khouri, director of the Issam Fares Institute at the American University of Beirut. “So it’s kind of out of character for them to suddenly join the chorus of people who are pressuring the Syrians.”
The reality is that the harsh message wasn’t aimed only at Syria. The elderly Saudi king was also taking a straight jab at another country: Iran, Syria’s most prominent regional ally. "[The Saudis] want to destroy the single and only foreign-policy success of the Iranian Islamic Revolution, which is [establishing] links with Syria and Hizbullah," Khouri says.

OIC has no locus standi in Jammu and Kashmir, says India!

Have you read, “Mayhem of the Miserables!” available @ http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/52075

ANITA JOSHUA / The Hindu / NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD, July 2, 2011.

India rejects OIC reference on Kashmir
India on Friday reacted sharply to the reference made by the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) that, among other, things urged member countries to render more support in all fields to help the Kashmiri people meet their aspirations.
The reference was made at the meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu & Kashmir on the sidelines of its 38th Council of Foreign Ministers in Astana. Rejecting “all such references/resolutions”, the External Affairs Ministry said: “We note with regret that the OIC has, once again, chosen to comment on J&K and India's internal affairs in the resolutions adopted.”
“Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the India and the OIC has no locus standi in matters concerning internal affairs of India, which is the largest democracy and home to the second-largest Muslim population in the world,” the Ministry said.

Even to retort to what OIC like non-entities talk of Kashmir is giving undue importance to them!

Please Join us in India’s Anti-corruption Movement; Kindly sign “Save Lokpal Bill” @

Hazare, who returned from Delhi this morning, was reacting to yoga guru Baba Ramdev's statement that he would raise a militia to protect his followers from police atrocities.
Talking to reporters at a function here, Hazare said: "We would not be with Ramdev if he gives up non-violence. None of us believes in violence."
Our Anti-Corruption Movement has been founded on the two cardinal principles of "Satyagraha" and "Ahimsa" and under no circumstances will we allow any divisive forces to hijack this movement for their narrow political ends.
Mentally deranged people may come and go, but the stability of our movement against corruption and black money shall go on.
We will not allow any provocation to force us to change our principles of fight against corruption with "Satyagraha" and "Ahimsa".

Antony was asked if India was worried about the safety of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal in the wake of the attack. "Our services are taking all precautions and are ready round-the-clock. But at the same time we don't want to overreact," he said.
Yes, if it cannot protect its Naval bases, can it protect its Nuclear Assets, especially with the suspected insider support?

The Addis Ababa Declaration, which was adopted at the end of the second Africa-India Forum Summit, called on all countries to ensure that acts of cross-border terrorism do not occur and their territories are not made a base for terrorists.

Both India and Africa condemned piracy and terrorism in all forms and called for active prosecution of persons who subscribe to such heinous crimes.
