HOUSTON - An investigation is underway after someone fired two shots at the windows of Congressman Gene Green’s office on Tuesday morning, a spokeswoman for the congressman says.

There were no injuries, and the congressman was not in his office at the time.

A spokeswoman tells FOX 26 News police were called just after 11 a.m. to the 200 block of North Sam Houston Parkway East.

Workers in the building originally thought they heard a car backfiring. That's when they discovered the broken window. It did not immediately appear Green was a target.

The Houston Police Department and the Harris County Sheriff’s Department responded to the call and are investigating.

Three patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) died after a fire broke out at a hospital here early Saturday, hospital officials said.

Fire officers suspect that an electrical short circuiting may have caused the fire at Kilpauk Medical Hospital.

The victims were identified as Tamil Selvi, 45, Krishna Bai, 72, and Nandagopal, 51, senior hospital official S. Geethalakshmi said.

According to Geethalakshmi, of the eight patients undergoing treatment at the ICU, four were in a critical condition before the fire broke out.

Hospital officials said Tamil Selvi and Krishna Bai died soon after the accident, while Nandagopal breathed his last later.

A major fire broke out in a power generation plant in New Delhi on Sunday severely affecting electric supply to various central Delhi localities with a minister suspecting “low maintenance” as the cause for the blaze.

No one was injured in the blaze that broke in a 100 MW transformer at the Rajghat Power Plant near the ITO at around 11:40 am. The plant generates around 170 MW power.

“A transformer caught fire. The cause of fire yet to be ascertained,” a senior fire brigade official said. 27 fire tenders were rushed to the spot which doused the blaze in 40 minutes.

Prima facie, a Delhi government official said it appeared that the fire took place due to overheating in the transformer.

Delhi Power Minister Harun Yusuf said the fire may have been occurred due to “low maintenance” as government has already decided to close down the coal-based plant by October this year.

“I have told them to file the internal investigation report within 24 hours. It may be a case of low maintenance as we have already decided to close down the plant,” Mr. Yusuf said.

Delhi Chief Secretary P K Tripathi visited the site and said the Central Electricity Authority will carry out a detailed probe into the incident. He is also the Chairman of GENCO, Delhi Government utility that maintains the power generation plant.

The sun pokes through smoke from a wildfire burning near Los Alamos, New Mexico. Thousands of residents have fled the town that's home to the Los Alamos nuclear laboratory as a rapidly-growing wildfire approaches, sending up towering plumes of smoke and raining down ash around the sprawling lab's property. The blaze, which began on Sunday, has already destroyed 30 structures south of Los Alamos and forced the closure of the lab - AP.

A top US nuclear research lab was ordered to stay closed on Tuesday after flames reached it and the local town began evacuating, though all high-risk materials were safe, officials said on Monday.

The Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) said there had been 'no off-site releases of contamination' after a one-acre (.40 ha) blaze on the southwestern edge of the research complex northwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

An emergency operations unit remains working at the high-security site, founded during World War II when it began developing nuclear weapons technology, and which nowadays employs some 11,800 people.

The center was ordered closed on Monday after the Las Conchas fire neared the edge of the site, and in an afternoon update authorities said it would remain closed for at least another day.

"The Lab will remain closed on Tuesday because of risks presented by the Las Conchas wild fire and the staged, mandatory evacuation of the Los Alamos town site," where some 42 per cent of its staff live, said the LANL website.

Lab boss Charles McMillan said it had been 'a very long night for the fire crews' fighting to contain the huge blaze, but the decision to evacuate some 12,000 residents of Las Alamos town was taken after the wind changed direction.

A one-acre spot fire was reported in Water Canyon on the Lab’s southwestern boundary, after the blaze jumped across New Mexico State Route 4, said the online update on Monday afternoon.
