Pet Detective Hired to Search for Jack the Cat at JFK
Jack the Cat went missing at the American Airlines baggage center at JFK.

A pet detective and her dog are expected to begin their search Friday for a cat that escaped its carrier at John F. Kennedy Airport.

Nicole Mabrey, owner of Lost Pet Investigation, told NBC New York she will begin her search Friday morning at the American Airlines terminal with her "scent-specific" German short-haired pincher.

Jack the cat got lost in the American Airlines baggage center over the weekend, shortly before Irene hit New York and forced airports to shut down for most of the weekend.

The cat's owner, Karen Pascoe, was flying with her two cats, Jack and Barry, to San Francisco last Thursday to start a new job in California.

The cats were flying in separate carriers as cargo, but Jack got out of the kennel and went missing, Pascoe said.

Pascoe told MSNBC she had to continue on to San Francisco because the rest of her luggage and her other cat Barry were already en route to the West Coast.

But her concern grew when she could not reach American Airlines over the weekend.

“I respect the fact that a hurricane was coming and things were a bit challenging,” Pascoe said, “but I didn’t hear from American until about 60 hours later.”

She decided to return to New York to continue looking for Jack, and hired Mabrey to help.

Pascoe is bringing some of Jack's other personal items for Mabrey's detective dog to sniff. The dog will then try to track Jack based on the scent.

"He will only track what I ask him to track," said Mabrey.

Mabrey estimates a recovery rate of 72 percent, and said if Jack is not at the terminal, the scent trail will end quickly.

She said she will also leave out fried chicken and sardines in the hopes of luring him out.

"I hope he is there and I hope we can pinpoint his area," Mabrey said.

A leaky ceiling in a Brooklyn apartment building turned out to be a python taking a bath in a sink.

A 10-foot python found some shelter from the storm Sunday in the bathroom sink of a Brooklyn apartment, cops said.

A tenant on the seventh floor of the Howard Houses on Mother Gaston Blvd. in Brownsville complained to NYCHA employees that water was seeping through the ceiling about 9:50 a.m., cops said.

Workers showed up to check on the leak and found the water was coming from an apartment above on the eighth floor, but no one was home, police said.

The NYCHA workers got inside and found a pool of water in the bathroom, but retreated from the overflowing sink when they spotted the colossal reptile coiled in the porcelain basin, police said.

The shaken workers called the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit to remove the python, which is illegal to own as a pet in the city, cops said.

The 2-year-old snake was taken to a city Animal Care & Control shelter in Brooklyn, a spokesman and police said.

Staff at the AC&C were still taking in animals in response to Tropical Storm Irene, which left many homes underwater in parts of Queens and Staten Island, said spokesman Richard Gentles.

The hardline Iranian parliament has slammed the latest fashion of keeping pet dogs by drafting a bill to criminalise the owning of dogs in private apartments or owners being found with them in public places.
The police chief of Tehran Hossein Sajedinia had declared last week that cars would be seized if there were dogs in them, along with the pets, the Scotsman reports.
Keeping expensive pedigree dogs has become fashionable in northern Tehran despite the fact that canines are considered 'unclean' in Islamic tradition.
The latest bill states that owning dogs is a 'blind imitation of vulgar western culture'.
Similarly, hardliners view jeans as 'decadent', as they believe that it could make youths infertile because they overheat the testicles.
