While accepting the offer of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for a dialogue on ending the impasse on the formulation of the Lokpal legislation, Anna Hazare on Sunday not only widened the agitation by calling on his supporters to confront individual Members of Parliament and Union Ministers at their homes but also warned the UPA government that its days would be numbered if it failed to pass the Bill by August 30.
Following up on the Prime Minister's offer on Saturday for talks, the Centre has launched a backchannel effort to work out a solution with the fasting anti-corruption crusader, but Team Anna said no formal approach had been made.
The government on Saturday indicated informally that it would like four months' time to take a decision on the matter after a thorough discussion, a suggestion Mr. Hazare's supporters turned down immediately.
Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal denied the possibility of any reconciliation. “They have not accepted even the smallest of suggestions made in the Jan Lokpal Bill. The government has just reworded the proposals already present in its Lokpal draft. There is no question of any pact with the government as of now.”
Mr. Hazare's supporters held a rally from India Gate to the Ramlila grounds, where Mr. Hazare's fast entered the sixth day, while several others — responding to the call of Team Anna — staged dharnas in front of the homes of several Union Ministers. At least 80 demonstrators were arrested when they sought to stage a sit-in in front of the Prime Minister's residence on Race Course Road.
Mr. Hazare addressed his supporters twice, in the morning and in the evening. In the morning, he said the doors were open for talks, but in his evening speech Mr. Hazare issued a warning to the UPA government.
He said the agitation would be intensified after August 30 if the government failed to pass the Bill. “The government will have to accept because the people have awakened. If not, you will have to go. You do what you want to, we too are prepared to launch an agitation which the country has not seen before.”

Hooliganism charges against Team Anna false, says Arvind Kejriwal!

NDTV Correspondent, Updated: August 22, 2011 10:42 IST.

New Delhi:  Key Anna aide Arvind Kejriwal, has denied charges of hooliganism against his team, saying those with vested interests are behind such allegations.

"Those people whose interests are likely to be affected, they will always call these protests as mobocracy. Annaji is not saying you indulge in hooliganism, Annaji is not saying you indulge in violence. Annaji is only saying that you go and protest in front of your Members of Parliament and ask them to make their stand clear. Otherwise, what is democracy? Democracy is not about going and voting in five years and handing over your destiny in the hands of some other people," said Mr Kejriwal.
His comments come in the wake of protests outside the homes of Congress leaders Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Kapil Sibal last night after Team Anna asked protesters to sit and agitate outside the home of MPs.

Congress leaders from Telangana region, including ministers and MPs, on Sunday decided to continue staying away from official work in order to mount pressure on the Centre for the creation of a separate state.
They would, however, participate in the official functions on the Independence Day.
“We have decided to continue the present policy of staying away from official duties,” Congress MP G Sukhender Reddy told reporters here, after a meeting of the Telangana Congress Steering Committee at the residence of its chairman and Rajya Sabha Member K Keshav Rao.
Asked how long the boycott would continue, Congress MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy said the MPs would continue to stay away from Parliament session unless the party leadership gave a directive to attend in the event of any crisis.
Asked if the State ministers too would boycott Cabinet meetings, he said maintaining status quo covered all aspects of abstaining from official work.
The Telangana Congress MPs, MLAs and MLCs had submitted resignations on July 4 this year. The resignations of the MLAs were, however, rejected by the Assembly Speaker. All of them, including State ministers, have been staying away from the official work since then.
There were expectations that Telangana Congress leaders would resume their duties in the wake of the repeal of Clause 14 (f) of 1975 Presidential Order that had made Hyderabad a free zone for employment.

The ruling Congress MPs, legislators and State ministers from Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh on Friday said that they would resign en masse on July 4 in support of their demand for a separate state.
“The people of Telangana are expecting us to quit our posts for achieving separate statehood. Due to the delay in the formation of Telangana, there is an impression that we are not quitting our posts out of lust for power,” Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Minister K Jana Reddy said.
“Now we are in a situation that we have to prove that we are not hankering for power. Hence we decided to submit our resignations on July 4,” he said after a meeting of the leaders from the region attended by seven MPs, 18 MLAs, nine MLCs and nine ministers.
Mr. Reddy made it clear that they’ll remain in Congress and work for achieving Telangana and strengthening the party.
The decision to resign “has been taken keeping people’s aspirations in mind and it is hoped that the party leadership would understand our predicament,” he said.
The Telangana Congress leaders have been pleading with the central leadership for the last two years to implement the announcement made by the Centre on 9 December 2009 to form separate Telangana, Mr. Jana Reddy said.
Congress leaders from Telangana had recently met the Congress leadership in Delhi and set a June end deadline to take a positive decision. They had threatened to take harsh steps if a final decision was not taken within the period.

This talk is no news to the people of Andhra Pradesh and especially of Telengana as they have been issuing such threats on several occasion in the past and always their 'high-command' made them retract.

Anyway, 4th. is not too far; lets wait and see!
