New Delhi: Delhi Police have been accused of employing excessive force while dispersing a protest march by Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha workers in New Delhi on Tuesday. Police allegedly lathicharged BJP youth workers after they tried to force their way towards Parliament.

But new evidence reveals that police personnel were attacked and hit by stones and bricks, which forced them to take action against the protestors.

The BJP Yuva Morcha was holding a rally against corruption which was dispersed with the police resorting to tear gas and lathicharge.

Yet another day of Parliament was lost on Wednesday to pandemonium over Tuesday’s police action on Bharatiya Janata Party youth wing workers protesting against corruption in New Delhi, with the party demanding resignation of Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram.

The BJP blamed Mr. Chidambaram for ordering a lathi charge on its youth wing workers and its members created uproar in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, disrupting proceedings from the time the Houses met for the day.

Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani met Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to complain that the police action against the youth wing workers might have been ordered by Mr. Chidambaram.

Leaders of the Opposition in the two Houses Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley demanded Mr. Chidambaram’s resignation as they alleged that the “corrupt” government was resorting to “brutality” as it did not like anyone to protest against corruption.

In Parliament, both the Houses were adjourned for an hour because of the uproar when they met for the day at 11 a.m.

Similar situation persisted, forcing the chair in the Rajya Sabha to adjourn the House till Thursday while the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 p.m. before being adjourned for the day.

In the Rajya Sabha, BJP members trooped into the well shouting slogans, lathi-goli ki sarkar, nahin chalegi (this government wielding lathis and firing bullets will not be tolerated).

Demanding Mr. Chidambaram’s resignation, they displayed photographs of wounded workers as also the banners against the government.

As the BJP members were protesting in the well, the Shiv Sena, the Akali Dal and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam members stood up in support.

Kerala assembly today witnessed a ruckus between opposition and ruling party members, who came to near blows over Wednesday’s police lathichage on pro-Left organisations on the self-financing colleges issue.
Speaker G Karthikeyan called the watch-and-ward to prevent a commotion after two legislators rushed to the chair of the Chief Minister, and adjourned the House after the situation got out of control.
The trouble started after opposition Deputy Leader in the House Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, through an adjournment motion, raised the issue of “brutal” lathicharge on student activists who were protesting against “commercialisation of education” in the capital yesterday.
Unruly behaviour by our Legislators inside and outside is no news; we should take note of only when they behave otherwise!
