The Madras High Court today granted conditional bail to Sun Pictures Chief Operating Officer Hansraj Saxena, recently arrested in an alleged cheating case registered by city police.

According to the complaint, Mr. Saxena allegedly cheated film producer Hitesh Jabak, in connection with the film ‘Maappillai’. Based on a complaint by the producer, police had registered a case.

In a major relief to Sun Pictures, three complainants, who had filed criminal cases against former COO Hansraj Saxena, have now opted for an out of court settlement. Sun Pictures is a part of the listed Sun TV Network and is engaged in the business of film distribution and production.

The petitioners now want to withdraw cases and if the High Court allows that, Mr Saxena can be released.

Police today filed yet another case against Hansraj Saxena, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Sun Pictures, owned by Kalanidhi Maran, media magnate and grand-nephew of DMK chief M. Karunanidhi, following a complaint by a film producer.

Police slapped charges such as cheating and extortion and re-arrested Saxena and his aide Ayyappan, both already in prison in connection with another case, and two others including a relative of Saxena.

They were arrested based on a complaint by Tamil cinema producer T.D. Raja who alleged that he was forced to sell the satellite rights of his film 'Vallakottai,' for Rs 70 lakh though Sun TV had initially offered him Rs 1.25 crore, a police release here said.

One more criminal complaint was lodged with police against Sun Pictures Chief Operating Officer Hansraj Saxena as a court remanded him to judicial custody on expiry of two-days police custody in a cheating case.

Salem-based Shanmugavelu of Murugan Films filed the complaint with K.K. Nagar Police here alleging that Saxena owed Rs 42 lakh to him and was intimidating him when he demanded its return, police said.
