Washington:  Officials at Virginia Tech University, scene of the worst school shooting in US history, on Thursday locked down the campus after reports of a person with a gun on campus.

"Person with a gun reported near Dietrick," the university said in a bulletin on its website, referring to a campus dining hall.

"Stay inside. Secure doors. Emergency personnel responding. Call 911 for help."

Oslo:  A spokesman for Norway's Labor Party says a gunman opened fire at the party's youth camp outside Oslo, shooting several people following the bomb blast at the government headquarters in the capital.

It wasn't immediately clear if the attacks were related.
