Pollution in Ganga claims more lives than bomb blasts: Advani!

Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani on Sunday expressed concerns over the increasing level of pollution in the river Ganga, saying it was claiming more lives than those caused by bomb blasts.

In his latest blog posting, Mr. Advani quoted Swami Chidananda Saraswati of Parmarth Niketan, Rishikesh, to argue that the pollution in Ganga was a serious matter.

“Today most people do not realize that nearly a million people living along the banks of the Ganga die each year due to illnesses caused by its polluted water...”

“A few dozen people dying in bomb blasts in India becomes big news worldwide, and rightly so. But the tragic deaths of many people, who are dependent on the Ganga, go unnoticed even in India. We must change this,” he said, quoting Swami Chidanand.

“Ganga is languishing in such polluted state that people hesitate to bathe in her waters even in Kashi. This is caused by reckless and ill-planned industrialization and urbanization, made worse by lack of elementary civic facilities in towns and villages along it,” Mr. Advani observed.

       01)   How come he, conveniently, ignores Swamy Nigamananda, who scarified his life for Cleaner Ganga in BJP ruled Uttarakhand?

Launching her ‘Save Ganga campaign’ in Garhmukteshwar in Ghaziabad district on Thursday, BJP leader Uma Bharti announced that she would not eat cereals and survive only on fruits until the Centre constituted a board to review all projects made for checking pollution in the river.

Alleging irregularities in the implementation of these projects, Uma said an inquiry into the expenditure of funds received for these projects was necessary. Expressing concern over the condition of river, she said that devotees had started avoiding performing rituals in the river because of the pollution.

Some Fast for the upcoming UP elections, anyone can survive for 100 years on fruit alone diet, except its very expensive and only wealthy politicians of Uma Bharati's stature can afford such diets! 

If they are truly fighting for 'Clean Ganga', they should also included the whole stretch of Ganga right from Uttarakhand to Bihar, to Uttar Pradesh to West Bengal in which course it is contaminated by every municipality with its untreated sewage, every town with its industrial effluents, criminal traders with their illegal mining and people with their washing, bathing and other purposes.

Swami Nigmanand fasted and died in Uttarakhand to stop the illegal mining that has been contaminating the river, there:

Unsung-Karmayogi, Swami Nigmanand Death: Nigmanand's brother alleges threat to family!

The elder brother of Swami Nigamanand, who died on June 13 after a four-month-long fast to protest illegal quarrying and mining, has lodged a complaint with police here apprehending threat to his family from a Haridwar-based seer and others, police said.

The family that never bothered to visit Swami Nigamanand, while he was hospitalised demanded his dead body so that they could cremate him as per their rituals.  Since, Swami renounced the worldly life and joined the Matrisadan, where the dead Sadhus would be cremated as befitting to a Sanyasi, which they did.

Now this brother of late Swami, Satyan Kumar Ashish, appear to be creating problems to the Matrisadan's management through false cases!

The Uttarakhand government on Wednesday said it is ready to order a CBI inquiry into the death of Swami Nigamanand, who was on fast for about four months protesting against illegal quarrying.

"The government had yesterday handed over the inquiry into the death of Swami Nigamanand to the CB-CID. But if the Matri Sadan ashram and family members of Swami Nigamanand want inquiry by any other agency or CBI, we are ready for that also,” State Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik told reporters in Dehra Dun.

Stating that though the post-mortem report of Swami Nigamanand has stated coma, septicaemia and degenerative brain disorder as the cause of death and his viscera has been preserved for further forensic examination, Mr. Kaushik said the government can also facilitate another sample of his viscera for the satisfaction of his ashram and family.

02)  The Superintendent of the Hospital had a cheek to suggest that the high levels of toxins found in the body of Swamiji could be due to continued fasting!

Yes, a CBI enquiry is required as the State Police and CB-CID could be influenced the way the Hospital staff were bought-out by that illegal mining Mafia.

World Bank approves one billion $ loan to clean 'Ganga'!

Washington, Jun 1, (PTI):

The World Bank has approved a USD one billion credit and loan for cleaning the river Ganga that accounts for one-fourth of India's water resources.

A significant part of the Bank's support will go towards financing demonstrative investments for reducing pollution in a sustainable manner, in four key sectors: wastewater collection and treatment, industrial pollution control, solid waste management, and riverfront management, a statement said. The World Bank's National Ganga River Basin Project will help build the capacity of the NGRBA's new operational institutions to manage the Ganga clean-up and conservation programme. Hope every cent of it goes into the real cleaning and not into the pockets of the  contractors, middlemen, bureaucrats and politicians. And also hope that once it is cleaned, we do not again abuse the socalled Ganga, with all kinds of irreverent acts of letting out municipal sewage, industrial effluents and using it for washing cloths, cattle, etc. along its course.
