New Delhi: Former BJP MP and former Maharaja of Bharatpur Vishvendra Singh and his wife Divya escaped gun fire from an unidentified assailant at Laxmi Vilas Hotel on Thursday.

Singh along with his wife Divya and 200 other supporters were protesting outside the hotel whose owner had written a book allegedly criticising the royals, police said.

The supporters ransacked the hotel following which some one from inside the building fired at the former MP and his wife, they said.

Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet was among guests forced to flee after a fire sparked by a lightning strike swept through Richard Branson's opulent home on the tycoon's private Caribbean island.

Sir Richard said about 20 people were staying in the eight-bedroom Great House on Necker, his private isle in the British Virgin Islands. The fire is still raging in the building.

Sir Richard's daughter, Holly, who is due to marry shipbroker Freddie Andrews on the island later this year, and his 90-year-old mother, Eve, were also among guests forced to flee the Great House.

The Virgin entrepreneur, 61, his wife, Joan, and son, Sam, were on the island but were staying in another property around 100 yards away when the fire broke out last night.

He said the fire broke out during a storm, and Sam managed to help evacuate Winslet and other guests. The house was 'completely destroyed', he added, and the fire was not yet entirely extinguished this morning.

In recent days, the Caribbean has been buffeted by tropical storms, with the one passing over Necker Island last night today picking up speed to become the first hurricane of the season.

An interior decorator, whose car was badly damaged in the bomb blast in Dadar on Wednesday evening, has narrowly escaped death in terror attacks for the second time.

Deepak Patel (36), who was driving his Maruti Esteem - in which, according to initial reports, the bomb was planted - escaped unhurt when the bomb, kept atop a bus stop, went off when he was passing by the spot.

Earlier, he had narrowly escaped July 2006 train bombings in the metropolis.

Patel, a resident of neighbouring Navi Mumbai, was questioned and his statement was recorded by Shivaji Park police before being allowed to go home at 3 a.m. today.

Describing his experience as a 'nightmare', he said, "I had come to Dadar for some work. I was passing through the bus stop in my car when I heard a huge explosion. My car was completely damaged. I immediately got down and ran for safety."
