• Rallies, demonstrations, stage shows and all kinds of awareness programmes will be organised in many places today, voicing concern for child workers.
  At the same time, if you peep into your neighbourhood hotels, textile showrooms and farmlands, you can see for yourself that the 25-year-old Child Labour Prohibition and Regulation Act (CLPRA) still remains on paper.
  The regulations like children should work for only three hours, work in non-hazardous jobs, employers should provide weekly off, kids should work only in a clean and hygienic work places, as mentioned in the Act, do not find any meaning in day-to-day life.

Why Ruling class wouldn't address Child Labour, permanently, is because they are not a vote-bank, whereas the Child-Abusers are!

INDIA'S SHAME: Child workers turn campaigners!

It was a dance of joy and a campaign against child labour organised by NGOs Arunodhaya and Save the Child at Natesan Park in Chennai on Sunday — DC.

Scores of children assembled at T Nagar on Sunday evening, not for a gala celebration, but to share their experiences as child workers.

The children, all rescued child workers, gathered at the park and raised their voices for child labour-free Chennai. Jointly organised by Arunodhaya and ‘Save the Child’, child welfare NGOs, the programme provided a platform for the children to express themselves.

Issac Newton, 15, said more than 300 child workers were rescued from households in Chennai in the past few years by his group. “We have formed child rights protection committee in schools. Adults and children can alert us about child workers in their neighbourhood. We will rescue through our volunteers,” he said.

If we analyse  the stories of Child Labour, carefully, we see a uniform pattern of rank greed with the lower class equivalent to any other gobbling class of India.

Amid a heated debate over bringing back unaccounted money stashed abroad, a child rights outfit has claimed that child labour generates Rs 1.2 lakh crore of blackmoney every year in India.

According to a report 'Capital Corruption: Child Labour in India' prepared by Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), the figure was arrived at by calculating the number of child labourers, the income earned by them and the illicit profits being generated by employers by not appointing adult workers.

"The greed for maximisation of profit fuels the demand for child labour, with children as cheapest form of labour. Child labour, corruption and flow of black money, fuel and sustain each other in an illicit nexus that only profits the employers and the middlemen," the study said.

This is as worse as infanticide!

44 child labourers rescued from leather units in Delhi!

New Delhi, May 19 (PTI) Forty-four child labourers, all of them trafficked from Bihar and working in leather goods units, were rescued by authorities in north-west Delhi today.

The rescue operation was conducted in Karan Vihar by the area sub-divisional magistrate, task force for elimination of child labour, Delhi Police and the activists of child rights NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA).

A BBA official said the NGO had identified the workplaces in advance. "Forty-four children working in shoe, purse, and bag-making units were rescued. Most of them hail from Darbhanga, Champaran and Sitamarhi districts of Bihar."

The should be amended to ensure Child Labour Employers be sent for life imprisonment.
