It was a dance of joy and a campaign against child labour organised by NGOs Arunodhaya and Save the Child at Natesan Park in Chennai on Sunday — DC.
If we analyse the stories of Child Labour, carefully, we see a uniform pattern of rank greed with the lower class equivalent to any other gobbling class of India.
Scores of children assembled at T Nagar on Sunday evening, not for a gala celebration, but to share their experiences as child workers.
The children, all rescued child workers, gathered at the park and raised their voices for child labour-free Chennai. Jointly organised by Arunodhaya and ‘Save the Child’, child welfare NGOs, the programme provided a platform for the children to express themselves.
Issac Newton, 15, said more than 300 child workers were rescued from households in Chennai in the past few years by his group. “We have formed child rights protection committee in schools. Adults and children can alert us about child workers in their neighbourhood. We will rescue through our volunteers,” he said.
