New Delhi: A day after he urged Muslims to stay away from Anna Hazare’s anti corruption campaign, the Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid, Syed Ahmed Bukhari has drawn flak from community leaders.

Imam Bukhari had accused Anna Hazare of working on RSS and BJP’s behest and described his slogans as ‘anti-Islamic’.

Reacting to his appeal to the Muslims, the All India Ulema Council general secretary Maulana Mehmood Daryabadi said that these might be Bukhari’s personal view and need not be taken as the view of the whole community.

Taking a dig at Bukhari, Daryabadi described him as a ‘Royal Imam’ of mosque built by an emperor and said that he doesn’t represent the views of a common Muslim.

According to newspaper reports, Bukhari failed to garner any support for his views even outside the Jama Masjid. A local hawker Mohammad Irfan insisted that he supports Anna wholeheartedly for ‘at least someone is standing-up for the country’.

Chennai: Ending its week-long boycott of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, DMK on Saturday said it would attend the proceedings when the House resumes its sitting next week as it wanted to discharge its democratic duties towards the people.

Party's Treasurer and DMK Legislature Party Leader MK Stalin informed Speaker D Jayakumar that his party MLAs would attend the budget discussion pertaining to grants for various departments (which is scheduled from next week).

DMK, which has 23 members in the 234-strong Assembly, had boycotted the budget presentation on August 4 and subsequent discussion on it, demanding that the Speaker make seating arrangements accommodating all its MLAs in a single bloc.

Syria is facing near total isolation in the Arab world after a series of countries withdrew their ambassadors in protest at the regime's killing of civilian demonstrators.

In what could yet prove to be the turning point of the crisis, opinion in the Arab world swung firmly against Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian president, for the first time since the uprising began in mid-March.

After months of silence, King Abdullah, the Saudi monarch and the region's most powerful potentate, set the tone by issuing a statement denouncing Syria's suppression of the protests seeking Mr Assad's overthrow as "unacceptable".

"Syria should think wisely before it is too late and issue and enact reforms that are not merely promises but actual reforms," he said. "The future of Syria lies between two options: either Syria chooses willingly to resort to reason, or faces being swept into deep chaos, God forbid."

Saudi Arabia announced it was recalling its envoy to Damascus "for consultations" and its two closest allies, Bahrain and Kuwait, swiftly followed suit.

"No-one can accept the bloodshed in Syria," Sheikh Muhammad al-Sabah, Kuwait's foreign minister said. "The military option must be halted.

NALGONDA: Is the notorious Khap panchayat culture as rampant in the State as it is in Haryana? It seems so. A day after a woman was ex-communicated for seeking alimony from her divorced husband at Bheemili in Visakhapatnam, a young man reportedly committed suicide after being ostracised at a village in Nalgonda district on Sunday.

Shaik Sayyed (28), a daily-wage worker, was found hanging from a tree in the fields outside Motkuru in Nalgonda district this morning. His widow Gore Bi lodged a complaint with the police, stating that Sayeed had ended his life following the family’s humiliation in the village.

Going into the details, Gore Bi, a farm hand, had an argument with a fellow worker on Friday and the latter took the matter to the notice of the village elders. She had complained that she was insulted by Gore Bi and demanded justice. The village elders, including Gore Mia and Razz Mohammad, summoned Gore Bi Saturday morning but she did not turn up.

Nepal’s Madhesi parties pull out of State restructuring talks!

A crucial front from Nepal’s Terai plains has decided to pull out of talks for the restructuring of the state and devolution of power, amid a row with the three main parties in the country.

The United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), an alliance of the Terai-based parties with some six dozen lawmakers in the parliament, had been involved in talks with the government and the main opposition Nepali Congress over its demand for a single autonomous Madhes State comprising the 20 districts in the southern plains bordering India.

J.P. Gupta, Chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum — Republic (MJF-R), one of the constituents of the Front, said they are ready to talk on forming a panel of experts on state restructuring, but would not discuss the issue of the setting up of a State Restructuring Committee (SRC) any further.

“We came for the meeting as the leaders of the three parties had assured us an alternative to SRC,” Mr. Gupta was quoted as saying by Nepalnews online.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, UDMF leaders said they will not agree to the formation of SRC and will not further discuss it.

The rebel BJP faction in Karnataka headed by Jagadish Shettar today boycotted the swearing-in ceremony of new Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, again bringing into sharp focus the deep division in the ruling party.

However, Ananth Kumar and the party’s state unit chief K.S. Eshwarappa, the two leaders who propped up Mr. Shettar against Mr. Gowda, who is outgoing chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa’s choice, were present in the Raj Bhavan.

Earlier Mr. Gowda drove to Mr. Shettar’s residence, where MLAs backing him were having breakfast, and invited them to attend the swearing-ceremony at Raj Bhavan. However, the legislators boycotted the event.

In an embarrassment to the Congress, 10 party MPs from Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh, who have tendered their resignation on the separate statehood issue, on Monday stayed away from Parliament on the opening day of the Monsoon Session.

The MPs, including senior party leader K. Keshav Rao, decided not to attend the session and were closeted at his residence.

Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar said the Telangana Congress MPs who have resigned their posts will not attend the session.

“We want a separate Telangana state. That is our only demand. So, we are not attending Parliament,” he said.

While 9 MPs are from Lok Sabha, Rao is from Rajya Sabha. Congress has 12 MPs in Lok Sabha from the Telangana region.

Agitated over the treatment meted out to Baba Ramdev, Anna Hazare-led civil society on Sunday announced a day-long nationwide hunger strike on Wednesday in protest and decided to boycott the meetings of Lokpal drafting committee in another showdown with the government.

Accusing the government of having suspicious intent with regard to dealing with corruption, Mr. Hazare said the civil society would defy prohibitory orders on Wednesday at Jantar Mantar to protest the police action against Baba Ramdev’s movement.

However, Mr. Hazare said he has “some issues” with the yoga guru and would not share the dais with him at Jantar Mantar.

I would rather put it this way, the nationwide hunger strike would be against the treatment meted  out to those innocent, sleeping citizens and against the usage of brutal force of tear-gas and Lathi charge, which fact Delhi police prefer to deny, despite the TV footages, from different channels.  Compared to that, our Flip-Flop Ramdev was let off very lightly and now safe and sound in Hardwar.
