• After an ordeal of two years, 128 stranded Indians who were working in Bahrain will soon be able to return home as a travel ban on them is about to be lifted.
  Of the 128 workers, 80 are from Andhra Pradesh, from districts like Adilabad, Karimnagar and Nizamabad.
  Two years back, a Bahrain court had fined and imposed a travel ban on 128 workers of the Abdul Naas Company as they had left their jobs without the company’s consent.

MANAMA (Reuters) - A Bahraini court sentenced a young Shi'ite poet to one year in prison on Sunday for taking part in illegal protests and incitement against the Gulf state's monarchy.

Ayat al-Qurmouzi, 20, was arrested after she recited a poem mocking the Bahraini king and demanding he step down, during protests led by the country's Shi'ite majority that gripped the kingdom in February and March.

A relative confirmed her sentence, saying Qurmouzi's family had feared for her safety in detention.

Bahrain, a U.S. ally that hosts the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet, called in troops from its fellow Sunni-ledGulf neighbour Saudi Arabia to help it crush the pro-democracy protests in March.

Qurmouzi is one of about 400 people, most of them Shi'ites, who the Shi'ite opposition party Wefaq says have been put on trial for their roles in the protests.

Hope, soon this Bahraini Autocratic establishment is replaced with a Democratic Republic!

Bahrain has lifted the state of emergency imposed in March to quell pro-democracy demonstrations.

Activists have called for protests to restart, but security measures remain in place to stop large gatherings.

More than 20 people were killed during the government's campaign to stifle the demonstrations.

Human rights groups are demanding an end to the what they call the arbitrary detention and torture of protesters, as well as secret military tribunals.

Bahrain's ruler, King Hamad al-Khalifa has announced that Dialogue, on reforms, would start next month but, why in the meanwhile so many killings?

Given the fact that security forces are alleged to have raped, tortured and killed people, it is very difficult to believe that al-Khalifa has any serious intentions of conceding the demand of democracy.
