Kicking up a new controversy, the Union minister for rural development, Mr Jairam Ramesh, says mega irrigation, mining and other infrastructure projects are the modern equivalents of Naxalite tyranny.



Kicking up a new controversy, the Union minister for rural development, Mr Jairam Ramesh, says mega irrigation, mining and other infrastructure projects are the modern equivalents of Naxalite tyranny.
Mr Ramesh also disclosed that the number of Left Wing Extremists (LWE)- affected districts in the country will go up from 68 to 78, including eight in AP from the present two, Adilabad and Khammam.
“There is a modern face and traditional face in Naxalism. The modern face reflects in projects flouting environmental issues and land acquisitions. The modern face includes Posco, Vedanta, Sompeta, bauxite mining in Araku and the like,” he remarked, naming the so-called developmental projects that have been highly controversial.
