The CBI, probing various cases in the conduct of the Commonwealth Games (CWG), is likely to register at least 10 more FIRs based on the findings of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG)’s report on the CWG, tabled in Parliament on Friday.

The agency has also decided to convert its preliminary enquiry (PE), registered to probe irregularities in awarding contract (worth `71.8 crores) related to the appointment of a Switzerland-based company as technical consultant for the games, into a regular case, sources said. Besides, the CBI, which is already probing irregularities in “overlays” contracts (worth `640 crores), has decided to send letter of requests (LRs) to authorities concerned in Switzerland, France and Hong Kong to get details about certain overseas companies.

A high-ranking official of the agency said, “The CAG report on CWG, which has been tabled in Parliament, is now being analysed by the CBI officials. The CAG, in its report, has highlighted apparent irregularities in certain contracts, which need to be probed by the CBI.” On the basis of new evidence which has emerged following the CAG report, the agency is likely to register at least 10 more cases, sources added.
