NEW DELHI: The verdict of the by-election to the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat, which saw the Babulal Marandi led Jharkhand Vikas Morcha wresting the seat from the BJP, has inflicted a crushing blow on the morale of the Arjun Munda government in Jharkhand.
The JVM candidate, Ajay Kumar, a former IPS official, trounced his BJP rival Dineshanand Goswami by a margin of 1.55 lakh votes. The Congress suffered the mortification of being pushed to the fifth spot. The by-election for the prestigious Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat was necessitated by Arjun Munda's decision to vacate it after being appointed as the state chief minister for the third time in September last year. He had won the seat comfortably in the 2009 general elections.
But in a stunning reversal, the JVM candidate not only snatched the seat but also vanquished the BJP candidate, a nominee of the chief minister, by a huge margin. Goswami could not even save his security desposit.
