- Krittika Biswas addresses a press conference in Manhattan.
- Even as India reportedly lodged a "strong protest" with Washington over the arrest of an Indian diplomat's daughter in New York, the United States stuck to its position that family members of consular officials do not enjoy diplomatic immunity."We were aware of her status," State Department spokesman Mark Toner told reporters Tuesday when asked about the February arrest of Krittika Biswas, daughter of India's vice consul at its consulate general in New York, and the treatment meted out to her.But "As I've said before, as a family member of a consular officer at the Indian consulate in New York, she did not enjoy immunity from arrest from criminal or civil jurisdiction under international law," he said.OK, granted, it just means
- family members of a US consular officers stationed at the India too do not enjoy any diplomatic immunity.
But the fundamental questions raised by me on May 26, 2001 still are unanswered:
01) Detention of a School going kid, without notifying the parents, for over 24 hours, hand-cuffing, denying to go to toilet and all smack of racial prejudice - both on the part of the School as well as on the part of NYPD.
02) Another million dollar question is, why that Chinese kid whom they found to be the real culprit of sending out hate-mail to that teacher not been disciplined, so far?
03) Same demeanour, different treatment, call it the American Redneck Justice!
04) Racial Bias: Why USA wouldn't act against a Chinese Student? @ http://prmadhura3.blogspot.com/2011/05/racial-bias-why-usa-wouldnt-act-against.html
