JAIPUR: Rajasthan Police is in a fix over an eight-month-old case involving a top NRI model originally from Rajasthan and ex-royal family of Deogarh, who run a heritage hotel at their ancestral haveli in Rajsamand district.

A research scholar in psychology at Columbia UniversityNew York, and a prominent model, Anjhula Mya Singh Bais, had lodged complaint with the Rajsamand superintendent of police on January 24.

Anjhula had alleged that on the final day of her wedding at Deogarh Palace on October 24 last year, the former royal family of Deogarh kept her and her husband Satish Selvanathan hostage for 16 hours at gunpoint. She alleged that the Deogarh owners let them go only after "fleecing" them for the "pathetic" services they had provided during the four-day wedding ceremony. However, Rajsamand police did not register a case claiming it was a payment dispute between two families and that no force was exercised, hence, the case was civil in nature and didn't warrant registration. "I sent a police team and no criminal act was involved in the dispute, therefore, case was not registered," said Rajsamand SP, Nitin Deep.

Rajastan Police, obviously, are trying to hide their incompetence, behind a specious argument of it being a civil dispute;  they should know better that when someone is forcefully detained and let off only when the confiners collected their demanded money, amounts to 'Wrongful Confinement' and 'Extortion', both of which are criminal offences under Indian laws!

  1. Well done on illuminating such an important topic as corruption. People should go to safe and sound places, not like Deogarh. Good for the young woman to speak up.
