Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and minister Krishna Palemar during BJP’s Janandolana against Governor H.R. Bhardwaj at Nehru Maidan in Mangalore on Sunday — KPN

In what is being viewed as a major snub for Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj, the Centre on Sunday decided to reject his recommendation for President’s rule in the state.
The decision is being interpreted as a bid to avert a constitutional crisis and was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) which met under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday evening.
The meeting took place shortly after the PM had hosted a dinner bash at his 7, Race Course Road (RCR) residence to celebrate the completion of two years of UPA-II. Earlier in the day the BJP had warned of a nationwide stir if the Centre did not reject the recommendation for President’s rule.
