The formal relationship started as soon as Pakistan became an Independent Republic. And it has always been a love-hate relationship, with loads of mistrust of other on both the sides.
Between 1965 and 1975, there was literally no relation, save for maintaining the usual diplomatic ones and in 1975 America has restarted its Arms Sales to Pakistan only to cut off all economic assistance, in 1979 due to Pakistani pursuit of Nuclear programme, save for food assistance.
As Soviets occupied Afghanistan through its puppet regime in 1979, in 1981 America started a fresh relationship to pump in over 3.00 billion dollars to train and arm the multi-ethnic Mujahedeen to displace the communist regime with the Taliban one (under the leadership of Mullah Omar), which finally happened, partly in 1988, when the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan leave it to the forces of Taliban – with the stateless Osama Bin Laden and his gangs of mindless terrorists actively supporting Mullah Omar for the total control, while Ahmad Shah Massoud and Abdul Rashid Dostum opposing the move in their parts of Afghanistan.
The apparent reason for America strengthening Pakistan was to bring stability in South Asia, while the whole exercise proved to create greater instability than it would have been otherwise and changed the history forever.
In 1999, America again cut off all economic assistance when General Parvez Musharraf had overthrown the Nawaz Shariff’s Government and became the Dictator.
During this period Talban systematically slaughtered scores of thousands of fellow Afghanistanis to impose their own kind of Islamic Republic in that country – banning women in public places, going to schools or colleges, to work in jobs, etc.
This lasted till 2001, when Osama Bin Laden had executed a heinous attack on the twin towers of World Trade Centre, taking over 3,000 lives and injuring several others not to speak of the trauma it left on the psyche of the world’s citizen. To dislodge the Taliban Government in Afghanistan, again America roped in Pakistan, by paring around 4 billion dollars, hoping it would mend its ways and overnight cut-off its former protégés, Mullah Omar and Osama Bin Laden and help America to capture them alive.
During this long period of love and hate relationship, America had pumped several scores of billions of dollars, most of which has gone into the sheltering, training and arming of the International Terrorists.
And then, Yesterday, we all realized that only America had to do all the struggle of locating the fugitives to kill, of all the places in the heart of Pakistan, just an hour’s journey from its capital, Islamabad.
The history has conclusively proved the following:-
1) Successive American Regimes have been fooling in trusting Pakistan;
2)
2) Pakistan proved to be an incorrigible blackmailer; and
3)
3) And a shameless support of the World Terrorism as its state Policy.
It does appear that after all that, America still wish to show some soft corner. America may have soft corner for Pakistan, but it shouldn’t expect the same level of sympathy from Pakistan towards it.
Will America come out of its foolishness?
