Yoga Guru Ramdev’s close aid Balkrishna, accused of using fake educational degrees for procuring a passport, on Friday appeared before the CBI here for interrogation for the second time.

Balkrishna reported to the CBI office around 11.15 hours along with Patanjali Yogpeeth officials and his lawyers, police said.

On August 3, Balkrishna was grilled by CBI for more than seven hours in connection with the case. As the questioning remained uncompleted, he was asked by the probe agency to turn up again on Thursday. But he did not turn up and sent a fax to the agency officials stating that he has to travel to Nainital to deposit his travel document with the office of registrar general on August 5 in compliance with a Uttarakhand High Court order and was busy trying to collect it.

He, however, later participated in several functions organised on the occasion of his 40th birthday at Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar, 29 km from here.

While staying the arrest of Balkrishna, the High Court on July 29 had asked him to cooperate with the CBI in the probe.

Yoga Guru Ramdev’s aide Balkrishna did not turn up before the CBI on Thursday for questioning, saying he had to collect his passport and submit it to the Uttarakhand High Court.

Balkrishna, who appeared before the CBI here on Wednesday, sent a fax to officials here saying he has to be deposit his travel document tomorrow as per the High Court’s order and he is busy trying to collect it.

However, he did not specify as to from where he was trying to get his passport. Balkrishna had earlier claimed he had deposited his passport in the British High Commission to get a visa.

Balkrishna had on Wednesday skirted key queries posed by the CBI in connection with a case of allegedly using fake educational degrees for procuring the passport.

CBI sources claimed that Balkrishna was evasive on vital questions relating to the case, prompting the agency to summon him again today. He was also asked to bring details of his antecedents along with original documents.

Yoga Guru Ramdev’s close aide Balkrishna, who allegedly used fake educational degrees for procuring a passport, today appeared before the CBI here for questioning.

In compliance with the Uttarakhand high court order, Balkrishna reported to the CBI office here, Balkrishna’s personal secretary said.

While staying the arrest of Balkrishna, the state high court had on July 29 asked Balkrishna to cooperate with the CBI in investigations and appear before it on Wednesday for interrogation.

Balkrishna was earlier summoned by the CBI to appear in its office here for interrogation on July 28. However, instead of appearing before the agency, he had sent a fax to the sleuths seeking 20-days’ time to appear stating that his passport is with the British High Commission.

But the agency turned down his plea and asked him to appear without passport on July 29. Balkrishna had again requested the CBI to give him 10 days’ time.

Yoga guru Ramdev’s aide Balkrishna on Thursday sought 20 days time to appear before the CBI for questioning in a case under the Passport Act, claiming he has applied for a U.K. visa and his travel document is with that mission.

The agency, however, rejected his plea and asked him to appear without the passport tomorrow for questioning, CBI sources said.

The CBI had asked him to present himself for questioning on Thursday, but sources in the agency said Mr. Balkrishna sent a fax in the morning, saying his passport is with the British High Commission for visa purposes and a reply from there was expected after about 20 days.

In his fax, Mr. Balkrishna said he was also consulting Supreme Court lawyer Ram Jethmalani and pleaded that any other date after 20 days may be given to him.

He said he came to know about the CBI notice, which was pasted on the ashram gate, yesterday.

The CBI has rejected his plea and asked him to appear without his passport tomorrow, they said.

Meanwhile, sources said Mr. Balkrishna is likely to move to Uttarakhand High Court to seek anticipatory bail.

Balkrishna, aide of Yoga Guru Ramdev, may be arrested by the CBI on Thursday for allegedly furnishing fake documents to get his passport.

CBI has summoned Balkrishna to appear on Thursday in connection with the case as he could not be traced at his residential address in Haridwar, CBI sources said.

They said summons have been served through local police on Balkrishna for appearing before the agency in Dehradun.

“It appears he is missing from his residence for three days. If needed he may be arrested,” they said.

The CBI has earlier issued a look-out notice against Balkrishna after it registered a case against him under section 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) for procuring the fake degree and violation of section 12 of the Indian Passport Act (knowingly furnishing false documents for getting passport).

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s aide Balakrishna has gone “missing” two days after the CBI had registered a case against him for allegedly furnishing fake educational degree for procuring a passport, police said on Tuesday.

A missing persons report has been lodged in Kankhal police station in Haridwar late last night by Balakrishna’s bodyguard Jayendra Singh Aswal.

According to the report, Mr. Aswal reached Mr. Balakrishna’s Divya Yog ashram residence to accompany him to his Patanjali office yesterday but Mr. Balakrishna asked him to go to the office alone saying that he would leave later.

However, Mr. Aswal said, he waited till late in the evening but Mr. Balakrishna did not come. After returning to Divya Yog ashram, Mr. Aswal inquired about him but his whereabouts could not be known following which he filed the report with the police.

The police team today reached Divya Yog ashram and questioned its officials regarding Mr. Balakrishna’s whereabouts.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday registered a case against yoga guru Baba Ramdev's aide Acharya Balkrishna for allegedly holding a fake passport, an official said. "We have registered a case against Balkrishna under section 12 of the Passports Act and cheating and forgery," said a CBI official.

Earlier, the investigating agency received a complaint that Balkrishna held more than one passport.

After the crackdown here on Baba Ramdev's fast against corruption in June, the government had asked security agencies to probe the allegations that Balkrishna held multiple passports.

NEW DELHI: CBI is examining a complaint against Balakrishna, a close aide of yoga guru Baba Ramdev, for allegedly holding a fake passport, sources said on Saturday.

A preliminary inquiry is likely to be registered soon against Balakrishna, the sources said adding the agency has received a complaint from the government about his having more than one passport.

On June 7, the Centre had asked security agencies to look into the allegations of the multiple passports of Acharya Balakrishna. 

Hope, this Investigation would come out with facts!

Haridwar: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's close aide Acharya Balkrishna surfaced in Haridwar on Tuesday, three days after he went missing following the police crackdown at the Ramlila Maidan on Ramdev's supporters, claiming that he was an Indian and not a citizen of Nepal as was being alleged by a Congress leader.

Balkrishna claimed that all allegations made against him are false and he had not appeared in public as he was injured during the crackdown and was not well. He alleged that he was badly beaten up by the Delhi Police during the crackdown.

He said he was an Indian and not a citizen of Nepal as claimed by Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh.

What he says is true, Digvijay Singh better be sure of his facts before he mislead the public.

Still government needs to check the documents submitted by him for acquiring his passport!
