IT sleuths on Tuesday arrived at Malayalam superstar Mohanlal's home for the second time as part of their investigation into reports that he has amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The four-member IT team was back at the superstar's residence after they were unable to open two bio-metric locks that can be opened using the fingerprint of the superstar or his immediate family members.

Mohanlal was away at a shoot in Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu.

Last week, the IT sleuths searched 20 places, including the homes and offices of Mohanlal and Mammootty and also of their close business associates.

While Mammootty has already deposed before the IT sleuths, Mohanlal was interrogated by IT officials at the shooting location on last week.

The IT sleuths have already recovered a pair of elephant tusks from Mohanlal's home. As per the law, only those who have the necessary license can keep ivory tusks, if not a case can be registered.

Though IT sleuths are tight-lipped about what they have found out from the two, both are known to have huge business interests outside the film industry, especially real estate holdings.

The Income Tax raids, without a doubt, must have proved a dampener for both Mammootty and Mohanlal, the reigning superstars of Mollywood.

While Mammootty was busy with engagement ceremony of his son when the IT sleuths knocked at his doors, Mohanlal was tied up with his tight shooting schedule for the upcoming flick Pranayam, touted as a watershed in his filmy career.

Mammootty had taken a brief break from the project ‘King and Commissioner’ in connection with his son Salman’s engagement, a low-key affair held at Taj Coromandal hotel in Chennai on Thursday.

However, ‘The Kings’ houses in Chennai and Kochi were raided by the IT officials. He is expected to reach Kochi by Friday evening.

Veteran Malayalam writer Sukumar Azhikode feels that Mohanlal should be stripped of the honorary Lt.Colonel rank following the ongoing Income Tax (IT) raid at the Malayalam superstar's residences and offices.
Azhikode has asked Defence Minister A.K. Antony to recommend to President Pratibha Patil to strip Mohanlal of the honorary commission in the Territorial Army.
"It is really a shame that superstars are involved in evading tax and they are doing it by exploiting their innocent fans," Azhikode told reporters here on Friday a few hours after the IT raids began at Mohanlal's residences and offices in various cities.
The I-T department sprang a surprise and arrived at the homes and offices of superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty early Friday morning and the searches for hidden wealth and undeclared income were still going on by Friday afternoon.
Mohanlal was given an honorary commission in the Territorial Army for his various roles in Malayalam films which portrayed him as a defence officer.
