Dominique Strauss-Kahn and his wife, Anne Sinclair have blown out of Manhattan, leading a paparazzi caravan on a high-speed chase to LaGuardia Airport en route to Washington, DC.

The cheerful couple were heading to their Georgetown townhouse and "Want their privacy," said a source briefed on their travel plans.

The two were dropped off at the airport's U.S. Airways departure entrance at 4:24 p.m., apparently in plenty of time to beat the travel advisory for weekend flights.

Strauss-Kahn and his Mrs. had left their TriBeCa townhouse with just three suitcases at around 3:45 p.m.

He wore a black jacket over a white shirt and khaki pants. She wore a black jacket, a gray, v-neck t-shirt, jeans and shiny black flats.

Even before they slammed the doors on their chauffeured white minivan, a small entourage of paparazzi had mobilized and begun gunning its engines.

Two cars, each carrying a tabloid photographer, plus four motorcycles, each carrying a driver and photographer for the French media, blasted off in pursuit.

Strauss-Kahn's driver tried hard to shake his six pursuers -- pulling a few quick left and right turns while still in Manhattan, then blasting up to 70 mph on highway stretches.

Deven Sharma, S&P president to step down!

Standard & Poor’s said late on Monday that its president, Deven Sharma, will step down and leave the company by the end of the year. He will be replaced by Douglas Peterson, a top executive at Citigroup.

The decision by Mr. Sharma to resign comes as the ratings agency is under pressure from several fronts, including outrage over its downgrade of the United States’s credit rating; an inquiry by the Justice Department into its ratings of subprime mortgage securities; and a push by activist investors to break up its parent company, McGraw-Hill.

The management change had been in the works for months and was unrelated to either the Justice Department’s inquiry or to the emergence of the activist investors, Jana Partners and the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan, according to a person briefed on the matter.

Mr. Sharma, 55, will step down on Sept. 12, but will remain with the company through the end of the year to help oversee McGraw-Hill’s review of its businesses. He had been among S.&P.’s most prominent public faces, including in its voluntary effort to reform the way it assesses credit risk and representing the agency before Congress.

His replacement, Mr. Peterson, 53, is currently the chief operating officer of Citibank, the banking unit of Citigroup.

Salvage efforts to tow away cargo ship MV Wisdom, grounded near Juhu beach, were suspended on Sunday for a fortnight due to operational constraints, a Directorate General of Shipping official said.

The vessel went adrift on June 11 from its tug that was towing it from Colombo to Alang in Gujarat, where it was to be broken as scrap. It is now grounded around five km on the south-west of Mumbai's Juhu beach.

"Due to engine trouble in the lead tug there were operational constraints in taking up salvage efforts today (Sunday)," the official said.

They will have to wait for another fortnight for the next spring tide comes in; in the meanwhile, lets hope that no spillage of any kind takes place from the ship that could contaminate the Mumbai Beach Waters!
