Giving a breather to the UPA government, DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on Friday ruled out his party pulling out from the Centre and said he had nothing against the Congress, which is “not helping us” in the 2G issue.

“I have nothing against the Congress. I am not disappointed over Congress not helping us in the 2G spectrum issue,” the DMK patriarch told reporters here after a meeting of the party’s High Power Committee, which met amid speculation that DMK might pull out its ministers from the UPA government.

Mr. Karunanidhi said the DMK’s General Council, at its meeting next month, would decide on ties with other parties as it was the only authorised body to take such important decisions.

DMK may not be in a hurry to part ways, but Congress, definitely, is!

• Defending daughter Kanimozhi, jailed in the 2G scam case, DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on Sunday said it was he who insisted on her being a shareholder in Kalaignar TV, to which the money related to the spectrum allocation was routed.
  "Kanimozhi's mistake is my mistake. It was I who compelled her to become a shareholder in Kalaignar TV with a view to settle her a base for her future," he said addressing a public meeting in his native constituency.
  The 88-year-old former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister claimed that CBI, which is probing the case, had named his daughter, a Rajya Sabha member, since it had to hold someone accountable.
  The Grand Old-Man of Tamilnadu needs to understand that blaming anybody wouldn't bring out Kanimozhi from Tihar Jail and he himself, soon, would be punished by J. Jayalalitha - as per the tradition of TN politics.
• Further he needs to blame himself for bad upbringing and failure to inculcate some morals and ethics into his children.

DMK chief and former Tamil Nadu chief minster M. Karunanidhi has blamed the central government for his daughter Kanimozhi's arrest in the 2G spectrum scam case.

Speaking at a public meeting late Sunday at his Tiruvarur constituency, Karunanidhi said: "She (Kanimozhi) is in jail owing to some central government's intelligence agency or due to carelessness of some officials or due to some other reason. As the matter is in court, I do not want to go deeper into it."

He doesn't mention her culpability!

Less than a month before he was accepted back in the DMK fold in 2008, DMK M.P. Dayanidhi Maran reportedly told an officer of the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai that then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's resignation threat on the Sri Lankan Tamil issue was a “drama,” meant to distract attention from Tamil Nadu's power crisis and the resultant popular anger, and, further, that his attempt at ‘blackmail' had alienated Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

A cable sent to the State Department under the name of Consul General Andrew T. Simkin, and accessed by The Hindu through WikiLeaks (176372: unclassified, dated November 3, 2008), reported Mr. Maran's candid observations along with Congress leader Peter Alphonse's assessment of what the DMK would do in the prevailing uncertain situation.

So far Karunanidhi got away with all the blackmail, diversionary & arm-twisting tactics.  Now with the DMK's weakened position,   atleast now, will Congress ascertain itself, against the bullying of DMK?
