Contradicting the Uttar Pradesh government's claim that it was a suicide, a judicial probe that went into the mysterious death of Deputy Chief Medical Officer Y.S. Sachan has concluded that it was prima facie a case of murder.

The report submitted by Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajesh Upadhyaya was presented before the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court during the hearing of a PIL seeking a CBI probe into the death. The CJM had submitted the report to the acting district judge, District Magistrate, Lucknow and SSP yesterday.

Arrested on charges of financial irregularities, Sachan was found dead inside the toilet of Lucknow district jail hospital on the night of June 22. He was also named as the key conspirator in the murder case of CMO B P Singh in April following the arrest of three shooters hired to kill him.

Lucknow, June 26: Police today registered a murder FIR in the jail death of an Uttar Pradesh government doctor but will act on it only after a judicial probe in the case is through. The Opposition Samajwadi Party was quick to label the FIR a “joke” because the police will have to wait for the magisterial inquiry to get over. The family of the doctor had sought a CBI probe into what they believed was a “murder”. Jail officials had said it was a case of suicide. Yogendra Singh Sachan was the prime accused in the murder of B.P. Singh, the chief medical officer in the women and family welfare department, on April 2. He was also suspected to have a hand in the murder of Singh’s predecessor Vinod Arya in October last year. The post-mortem report and a medico-legal expert’s opinion probably compelled the police to record the FIR. “We have converted a letter sent to us by the wife of Sachan on June 24 into an FIR,” said D.K. Thakur, deputy inspector-general of the Lucknow division.

New Delhi: CNN-IBN has tracked down Jaunpur MP Dhananjay Singh - a close aide of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minster Mayawati - who is being linked to the mysterious death of CMO Dr YS Sachan. He refuted any connection with the three murders even as Mayawati faces pressure to take action against him.

The Mayawati government is being boxed in over the mysterious death of Dr Sachar in a Lucknow jail. CNN-IBN has now tracked down the man the Opposition is pointing fingers at - Jaunpur MP Dhananjay Singh, a close aide of Mayawati's.

Reacting for the first time to charges leveled against him, Singh said, “All the allegations against me are baseless. They have been raised by the media and the opposition parties.No police officer has said I am connected to the scam. If someone says so then I am ready to challenge them. I have never even met YS Sachan, BP Mishra or VS Arya.”
