With Sports Minister Ajay Maken determined to bring Indian cricket under the RTI Act, it's now an all out war between him and one of the world's most powerful cricketing bodies - the BCCI.
The organisation today hit back at Maken, saying the minister was not aware of the 'ground realities' as they have already adopted transparency measures.
Maken, earlier in the day, had reportedly said that he is ready to consider BCCI's reservation on certain clauses of the Draft National Sports (Development) Bill, but wants the Cricket Board to come under the ambit of RTI.
'What do they pay for?'
"What do they mean by they don't get government funds so shouldn't come under RTI? They are indirectly getting government funds. How about the tax exemptions? How about the land they get? How much did they pay for the Ferozeshah Kotla?" said Maken.

Sumon K Chakrabarti, CNN-IBN / Updated Aug 02, 2011 at 06:39pm IST.

New Delhi: A parliamentary panel has rapped on the knuckles of the BCCI and Income Tax Department, alleging that four teams of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) routed investment from abroad, sources told CNN-IBN on Tuesday.
The teams involved in this latest IPL mess are Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab, who, the panel alleged, have got foreign investments without approval.
The panel - headed by former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha - has thus demanded that all tax exemptions given to the BCCI be withdrawn and those given specifically for the World Cup be reviewed.

"Good to know that just mentioning my name can send a shiver down their spines" tweeted Modi. Photo: Vivek Bendre - The Hindu.

Former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi has ridiculed the BCCI for reportedly suggesting that he might be involved in the organisation of the upcoming Sri Lankan Premier League, in which Indian players have been barred from participating.

“It seems best way to scuttle any plans to say Lalit Modi is behind it. Good to know that just mentioning my name can send a shiver down their spines,” Modi wrote on his Twitter page.

“Guess they are a bunch of spineless people running the show. Who have no clue as to what to do. Not that they ever had. I had to do it for them,” he said.

Media reports today claimed that the reason why the BCCI refused to permit Indian players to participate in the league was because it believed that Modi might be involved in its organisation.

“It just shows that Mandarins at BCCI have no clue what is happening in the cricket world. They can’t see beyond their own shadow,” fumed Modi.

No point in asking him why he ran away from India when so many cases are filed against him.

But, my question is to the powers-that-be, why has this fugitive been not brought back to prosecute against so many cases registered against him?

Is it inconvenient to these VIPs??
