DERANGED DOCTOR: Doctor leaves patient to die, to pay Rs 3 lakh!

Does a doctor’s duty end with his duty time even if a patient’s life is at stake?
The Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission disagreed with the argument by a doctor who left a patient to die because his duty time had ended and ordered him to pay the victim’s husband Rs 3 lakh as compensation.
The commission heard that the elderly patient was knocking on death’s door when a government doctor who promised to operate on her at 3 pm left the hospital at 2 pm as his duty time had ended. Papathiammal spent three hours waiting in vain for the doctor to perform the surgery to save her after she suffered a perforation of the ulcer.
