Accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of following “two standards” of compassion, Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday sought to know why he did not express similar sentiments after the police crackdown in the capital on supporters of Baba Ramdev.

The party also termed it as an “irony” that while the ruling party attacks the Uttar Pradesh government, it seeks Bahujan Samaj Party’s help in maintaining numerical superiority in Parliament.

“We want to understand why his compassion is limited to happenings in Uttar Pradesh. Why can’t he display similar compassion in other places, especially Delhi...how can there be two standards of compassion. We want Congress to clarify,” BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy told reporters here.

He was referring to Mr. Gandhi’s second visit to villages in Greater Noida which had witnessed violence to protest land takeover for the proposed Yamuna Expressway.

While agreeing that the law and order situation in UP was “bad”, he claimed the national capital faced a similar situation when police “targeted” supporters of Baba Ramdev in June at Ramlila grounds.

Indeed, Rahul Gandhi was insensitive when the farmers in the Congress ruled states were forcefully deprived of their sole-livelihoods, by the mega project promoters, without paying fair market price nor proper Rehabilitation and Resettlement Packages, as agreed with the State Governments.

Even BJP is not above such insensitivity, when it came to the poor farmers being deprived of their lands, forcefully!

Now, everybody is trying to impress the UP electorate, in view of the upcoming State Assembly elections there!
