HYDERABAD: In what is clearly a face-saving exercise, Congress MLAs and MPs from Telangana threatened to resign by July 4 if there’s no positive decision on T statehood by then. But the party high command doesn’t appear rattled.
Within hours after the elected representatives handed out the threat, AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is camping in Hyderabad, advised his partymen not to resort to such hasty steps.
In Delhi, Cong res s spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi ruled out the possibility of any crisis in Andhra Pradesh in the face of the latest T tremor.
The message that came out is that while the party would allow its Telangana leaders to make shrill noises, it is in no tearing hurry to push for a decision on the contentious issue.
“Granting Telangana state will have repercussions in other States as well. Within AP, we have to take into account concerns of people of all regions. This is bound to take time. It cannot be resolved in a few days,” was how Azad reacted replying to questions from reporters.
He more or less sent out a similar message while participating in another meeting, pointing out that both in the previous and current term, the Congress is only a leading partner of what is essentially a coalition regime at the Centre.
Therefore, it is imperative for the party to consult its partners on any major issue that has national ramifications, he added.

APPCC Chief, B. Satyanarayana and A.P. Chief Minister, Kiran Reddy are trying to pacify the agitating Telengana Congress MPs, Ministers and Legislators to be patient!
