Karnataka Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde is personally agreeable to dropping the contentious demand for bringing the Prime Minister and the higher judiciary within the purview of the proposed Lokpal Bill “for the time being” to ensure that the long-pending institution of Lokpal sees the light of day.

Of the eight issues over which there are differences between the government and civil society members of the Joint Drafting Committee, Mr. Hegde said he was personally amenable to the exclusion of these two for the time being, provided the remaining six were included in the proposed Bill.

“I'm not speaking on behalf of the civil society representatives. But personally I'm agreeable if 70 per cent of the basic requirements for the draft Bill are met,” he said, responding to a suggestion made by a reader during an interaction organised by The Hindu as part of its reader connect programme, “It's Official,” here on Saturday.

Good, something is better than nothing, to start with!
