The capital has managed to land itself in trouble.
From calling it 'unfortunate' to 'objectionable', political parties on Sunday have reacted strongly to Delhi Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta's suggestion to women not to venture out alone too late at night.
Gupta, at a function on Saturday, said: "You can't go out at 2 in the night and then say that you were a victim of crime." He said that women should be accompanied by a relative or friend when travelling at night.
"It is really objectionable, the Delhi police commissioner should understand more about women work before making such comments," Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat said.
"Whether it is 2 a.m. in the morning or 2 p.m. in the day, his job is to keep the city safe for women and the citizens," she said.

In other cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, et al too there are girls working in night shifts apart from having nighttime soicalising;  but, I hear Chiefs of Police of these cities cautioning against going alone or travelling in unknown vehicles or to note down the vehicle nos., to follow a routine and to inform parents or others of their whereabouts, etc. to ensure maximum precautions but never altogether absolve themselves of their responsibility of protecting all citizens, especially the women by advising them not to move out of homes at all, during nights.
