The Communist Party of India on Sunday came down heavily on the UPA Government for not taking political parties and Parliament into confidence while dealing with agitations by Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev against corruption and accused it of “undermining” democratic process.
Party National Secretary D. Raja asked why the Government did not act against Baba Ramdev’s agitation when it was clear from “the beginning that right-wing organisations like RSS were involved in the protest.”
“The Government is alone responsible for the current situation...it should have acted then...the government has undermined democratic institutions be it Anna Hazare’s agitation or Ramdev’s protest,” he said.
Mr. Raja,
I understand you sit in Parliament and also command a left political party.
Our Political Parties and Parliamentarians have been raising their voices against corruption of individuals or groups, on a very selective basis, without ever insisting on Institutional Reforms, which list of defaulters include the Left, the Right and the Centre, without any exception.
Again, you never used your good offices to ferret-out individual corruption cases, but only jumped the gun whenever news channels or CAG expose them. I doubt whether we deserve you people, there in the Parliament, in the first place!
As our Political Parties and Parliamentarians failed, the people on the above, the civil Society has decided to raise its voice.
Please note that, not withstanding the pending allegations against Flip-Flop Ramdev, the supporters who have converged at Ramlila Grounds, during the last Two Days are from the communities of Sikhs, Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, Christians and also some Hindu Radicals, from mostly rural, muffusil and semi-urban areas. I don't see how anybody can deny the right of even the Hindu Radicals raising their voice against such important issues as Corruption and all pervading Black-Money, which is our National Wealth, stashed away abroad and in India.
And as for Anna's agitation for Lok Pal Bill, the support came from the middle-class, Youth and people of all ages and communities and it was just spontaneous.
Please note that just because you sit in Parliament or command a political party doesn't mean issues of public concern and national good is your monopoly, especially when you guys have, miserably, failed in attacking such a national gangrene as corruption at all levels and plane, the subsequent generation of sleaze money.
It is a pity that as a Party or as a Parliamentarian, even Today, you do not have a specific stand on such critical issues of our Nation.
