The Union Home Ministry has written to the Department of Revenue to probe the allegations of disproportionate assets against former Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan who is now the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission.
In a letter to the Revenue Secretary, the Home Ministry said the Central Board of Direct Taxes, the investigative arm of the department, could conduct an inquiry into the allegations.
According to the Home Ministry spokesperson, a petition was submitted to Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram by some persons, including some leading lawyers, which contained allegations against the former Chief Justice of India and his relatives of under reporting their income.
